π’ βSometimes the journey between two islands becomes an adventure of its own β where the sea is the road and every window opens to another horizon.β
π’ Is Makruzz Cruise Worth It?
Our Andaman Tour β Day 2 began not on a beach, but on the open sea.
After spending our first day exploring Port Blair, it was time to leave the capital behind and begin our journey towards Havelock Island, officially Swaraj Dweep.
Our choice was the Makruzz Private AC Cruise.
And as soon as the vessel moved away from the jetty, the experience changed completely.
The city slowly disappeared behind us.
The water stretched in every direction.
The horizon became wider.
And what was supposed to be simply a transfer between two islands started feeling like another sightseeing experience.
π Port Blair to Havelock β Our Sea Journey Begins
Port Blair to Havelock Makruzz Cruise β Day 2 Ep 1
The morning began at Phoenix Bay Jetty in Port Blair, where we prepared to board the Makruzz cruise.
There is a particular excitement associated with island travel.
Unlike a road journey, there is no visible road ahead.
Instead, there is only water.
The ferry moves forward and the destination remains somewhere beyond the horizon.
For travellers visiting Andaman for the first time, this itself becomes part of the adventure.
π’ What Is Makruzz?
Makruzz is a private cruise service connecting important destinations in the Andaman Islands, including the route between Port Blair and Havelock Island.
For travellers moving between these islands, a private AC cruise offers a comfortable alternative to slower sea transportation.
The journey generally takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, although actual travel time can vary depending on sea conditions.
And the best part?
The journey itself offers beautiful views of the Andaman Sea.
ποΈ Port Blair to Havelock β A Journey Across the Andaman Sea
As the cruise moved away from Port Blair, the landscape gradually changed.
The familiar coastline became smaller.
Buildings disappeared.
The blue water became the dominant view.
And eventually, it felt as though we were surrounded by nothing but:
π Deep blue sea
βοΈ Open sky
ποΈ Distant islands
π’ The movement of the cruise
π Endless horizons
This is one reason we enjoyed the Makruzz journey.
It wasn’t simply transportation.
It was a part of the Andaman experience.
β±οΈ How Long Does Makruzz Take From Port Blair to Havelock?
The journey generally takes approximately:
π 1.5 β 2 hours
The actual duration can vary depending on:
π Sea conditions
π¬οΈ Weather
π’ Operational conditions
For this reason, travellers should avoid planning extremely tight connections immediately after arrival.
Island travel always benefits from a little extra time.
ποΈ Makruzz Ticket Price & Seating Classes
Makruzz offers different seating categories designed for different levels of comfort and budget.
πΊ Premium Class
Approximate fare:
βΉ1,000 β βΉ1,500
A more budget-friendly option for travellers who want the private cruise experience without choosing the highest class.
πΊ Deluxe Class
The Deluxe Class provides a mid-range comfort option between Premium and Royal seating.
π Royal Class
Approximate fare:
βΉ3,000
Royal Class is positioned as the premium seating option for passengers looking for a more upscale cruise experience.
Actual ticket prices can vary depending on travel date, availability, season and booking conditions.
βοΈ Fully Air-Conditioned Cruise
One of the practical advantages of the Makruzz experience is that the cabins are air-conditioned.
This can be particularly comfortable in the tropical climate of the Andaman Islands.
Inside the cabin, passengers can relax in comfortable seating while watching the changing sea outside through the windows.
For a journey of around two hours, this makes the crossing considerably more convenient.
πͺ The View From the Window
Although the cabin is air-conditioned, don’t spend the entire journey looking only at the seat in front of you.
Look outside.
The sea changes constantly.
Sometimes the water appears deep blue.
Sometimes sunlight creates sparkling reflections.
Sometimes clouds create dramatic patterns across the horizon.
And occasionally, distant islands or coastal structures appear in the distance.
These are the little moments that make a ferry journey memorable.
πΈ Makruzz Cruise Photography Tips
The cruise provides a completely different photography environment from a beach or mountain destination.
Try capturing:
π Wide-open sea
π’ The cruise cutting through the water
ποΈ Distant islands
βοΈ Cloud formations
π Sunlight reflecting on the sea
πͺ Views framed through the windows
π Geometric patterns inside the cabin
For photographs through glass, avoid pressing the lens directly against the window.
Try to keep reflections under control and use the changing angle of sunlight to your advantage.
π What Happens to Your Luggage?
One of the convenient aspects of the journey is the luggage-handling process described in our experience.
Passengers don’t need to keep large luggage beside their seats throughout the crossing.
The crew collects and arranges luggage separately.
After reaching the destination jetty, passengers can collect their bags.
This makes boarding and the journey more comfortable, particularly for travellers carrying multiple pieces of luggage.
β Onboard Cafeteria
Feeling hungry or thirsty during the journey?
Makruzz has a small onboard canteen/cafeteria where passengers can purchase refreshments.
Available items can include:
π§ Drinking water
β Tea
β Coffee
π₯ Snacks such as samosas
πͺ Biscuits
Prices may be somewhat higher than local shops, which is normal for onboard services.
For a short sea journey, however, the facility is useful.
π Makruzz Safety Instructions
Before departure, passengers receive safety instructions.
The important points include:
π Life jackets are provided under the seats
π Instructions are given on how to wear them
πͺ Emergency exits are identified
π¨ Evacuation procedures are explained
Passengers should pay attention to these instructions even when the sea appears completely calm.
Safety procedures are there for every journey.
π« Important Onboard Restrictions
Passengers are expected to follow the cruise’s safety rules.
According to the information for this episode:
π Smoking is prohibited
π· Alcohol consumption is prohibited
πͺ Passengers should remain seated while the cruise is moving
πͺ Access to open areas/decks can be restricted while the vessel is underway
These rules are designed to keep the journey safe and comfortable for everyone onboard.
π What About Rough Seas?
The Andaman Sea can sometimes become rough depending on weather conditions.
For passengers sensitive to sea motion, the experience may become uncomfortable.
If you are prone to motion sickness, consider:
π Carrying suitable motion-sickness medication
π½οΈ Avoiding a very heavy meal immediately before boarding
π§ Staying hydrated
πͺ Choosing a seat around the central part of the vessel
π Looking towards the horizon if possible
Everyone experiences sea travel differently, so prepare according to your own comfort level.
ποΈ Should You Book Makruzz in Advance?
If Makruzz is part of your planned Andaman itinerary, advance booking is a sensible approach, particularly during busy travel periods.
The October to March period can see strong tourist demand.
Tickets may be arranged through:
π» Online booking
π¨ Hotel travel desks
𧳠Travel agents
Booking early can reduce the stress of trying to arrange island transfers at the last moment.
β° When Should You Reach the Jetty?
For a smoother boarding experience, plan to reach Phoenix Bay Jetty at least one hour before departure.
Keep your:
π« Ticket
πͺͺ Government-issued ID
π± Booking confirmation
easily accessible.
Island transportation involves fixed departure schedules, so arriving late can create unnecessary problems.
π How to Reach Phoenix Bay Jetty
The Makruzz departure point mentioned for this journey is Phoenix Bay Jetty in Port Blair.
Travellers staying in Port Blair can reach the jetty by:
π Taxi
πΊ Auto-rickshaw
π Private vehicle
Depending on your hotel location, allow sufficient travel time for traffic, luggage and boarding formalities.
π§ Port Blair to Havelock β The Route
The sea route connects the capital city of Port Blair with Havelock Island, now officially known as Swaraj Dweep.
Unlike a road trip, the route is defined by open water.
The cruise gradually leaves the Port Blair coastline and heads across the Andaman Sea towards Havelock.
For first-time visitors, watching the mainland disappear can be a surprisingly emotional moment.
It feels like the real island adventure has finally begun.
ποΈ Arrival at Havelock Island
After the sea crossing, the appearance of Havelock brings another change in atmosphere.
The island landscape feels more tropical and relaxed.
The journey is over.
But another part of the Andaman adventure is just beginning.
For many travellers, Havelock is one of the major highlights of an Andaman itinerary because of its beaches, marine experiences, diving opportunities and tropical landscapes.
And our own Havelock chapter was about to begin.
π€οΈ Best Season for the Makruzz Journey
The period from October to March is generally considered a favourable season for exploring the Andaman Islands.
This period can be particularly attractive for travellers planning:
ποΈ Island hopping
π€Ώ Scuba diving
π Boat journeys
πΈ Beach photography
π Outdoor sightseeing
However, sea conditions can change with weather.
Always check the latest sailing information before departure.
βοΈ Best Time of Day for the Journey
For this episode, we experienced a morning departure.
Morning journeys can be attractive because travellers get to experience the changing light across the sea during daylight hours.
The sea can also feel calmer on some mornings, although this is never guaranteed.
Weather and sea conditions ultimately determine the character of each crossing.
π· The Sea as a Moving Landscape
One of the things we enjoyed most was the fact that the scenery never stayed still.
A beach remains in one place.
A monument remains in one place.
But the sea keeps changing.
The clouds move.
The sunlight shifts.
The water changes colour.
The horizon changes.
And the cruise continues forward.
For a photographer, it becomes a constantly changing canvas.
π₯ A Silent Cruise Experience
This episode follows the same philosophy that defines our TravelWithSurajit visual travel stories.
We don’t want to fill every moment with explanations.
Instead, we allow the journey to speak for itself.
The sound of the vessel.
The movement of the sea.
The changing horizon.
The passengers settling into their seats.
The light coming through the windows.
Sometimes travel is best experienced without too many words.
Just see.
Just feel.
π The Surprise Was the Journey Itself
The title asks:
βIs Makruzz Cruise Worth It?β
For us, the unexpected part was that the ferry ride didn’t feel like a simple transfer.
It became part of the trip.
The sea views.
The comfortable cabin.
The anticipation of reaching Havelock.
And the feeling of leaving Port Blair behind.
The destination was Havelock.
But the journey there became a memory of its own.
ποΈ From Port Blair to Swaraj Dweep
There is something special about travelling between islands.
You don’t simply cross a distance.
You cross from one landscape into another.
Port Blair fades behind you.
The open sea surrounds you.
And somewhere ahead, another island waits.
That transition is what makes island hopping so memorable.

And as the cruise moved forward, we knew that our Andaman adventure was entering a new chapter.
π Final Thoughts
Port Blair to Havelock Makruzz Cruise Journey
A ferry can simply take you somewhere.
Or it can become part of the reason you remember the journey.
For us, the Makruzz cruise from Port Blair to Havelock was both.
Comfortable.
Scenic.
Relaxing.
And full of anticipation.
The city slowly disappeared behind us.
The sea took over.
And somewhere ahead, Havelock was waiting.
π’ The destination was Havelock.
π But the journey across the Andaman Sea was an adventure of its own.
