Nestled at 2,800 m above sea level, Sonmarg, meaning “Meadow of Gold,” is surrounded by the mighty Thajiwas Glacier and Himalayan ranges. It serves as the gateway to Baltal and Zoji La Pass, leading to Ladakh. Known for its shimmering snowfields and peaceful valleys, Sonmarg offers the perfect blend of adventure and tranquility.
🧭 How to Reach:
By Air: Srinagar International Airport (SXR) – approx 80 km (3 hrs by road).
By Road: From Srinagar via NH-1D through Kangan and Ganderbal.
By Rail: Nearest station – Jammu Tawi (connected by road).
🎟️ Entry & Cost:
No entry fee for Sonmarg scenic routes.
Local union taxis required beyond Sonmarg market (₹1500–₹2500 depending on destination and snow conditions).
🕰️ Best Time to Visit:
March – April: Melting snow meets spring sunshine.

December – February: Deep snow for a true winter fairy tale.
