Andaman Tour – Day 2, Episode 2 | Scuba Diving at Govind Nagar Beach with Gypsy Divers

There are moments during a journey when the world suddenly becomes completely different.

For us, that moment came when we stepped into the sea at Govind Nagar Beach, Beach No. 3, Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep) and prepared for our first scuba diving experience.

At first, there was nervousness.

Breathing through a regulator underwater felt unfamiliar. Wearing the equipment, entering the shallow water and learning how to communicate without speaking all required a little adjustment.

And then we descended.

The sounds of the beach disappeared, the surface of the sea moved above us, and an entirely different world slowly appeared beneath.

Colorful coral formations, tropical fish and the incredible silence of the underwater world transformed our nervousness into excitement.

This is Andaman Tour – Day 2, Episode 2, featuring our scuba diving experience with Gypsy Divers at Govind Nagar Beach, Havelock Island.

🤿 Our First Scuba Diving Experience in Havelock

Scuba diving can feel intimidating when you have never breathed underwater before.

That was exactly how the experience began for us.

Before entering the sea, the instructors explained the equipment, demonstrated the breathing technique and introduced the basic hand signals used by divers underwater.

The preparation itself became an important part of the experience.

One by one, we put on the diving equipment:

• Wetsuit
• BCD – Buoyancy Control Device
• Scuba tank
• Diving mask
• Fins
• Regulator

Once everything was properly fitted, we moved into the shallow water for practice.

The purpose was simple — become comfortable with breathing underwater and understand how to move safely before beginning the actual dive.

🛟 Training & Safety Before Going Underwater

For a first-time diver, the briefing can be just as important as the dive itself.

The instructors explained how to breathe through the regulator, how to use the equipment and how to communicate underwater using hand signals.

There is obviously no normal conversation beneath the surface, so these simple signals become the language between diver and instructor.

The initial shallow-water practice also helped us become familiar with the sensation of breathing underwater.

That first few minutes of adjustment made a huge difference.

The nervousness gradually disappeared.

And then came the moment we had been waiting for.

It was time to dive.

🌊 Entering the Underwater World of Govind Nagar Beach

Govind Nagar Beach, also known as Beach No. 3, became our gateway into the underwater world of Havelock.

The experience began close to shore, making the dive feel accessible even for first-time participants.

As we slowly descended beneath the surface, the familiar beach environment disappeared.

Above us was the shimmering surface of the sea.

Around us was blue.

And below us was an entirely different landscape.

Coral formations appeared through the water while small tropical fish moved around the reef.

Suddenly, the nervousness we had felt before entering the water seemed far away.

🐠 Coral Reefs, Tropical Fish & Nemo

The real magic began when we started exploring the reef.

Colorful coral formations created an underwater landscape that looked almost unreal.

Among the marine life we encountered were different tropical reef fish, including clownfish — the famous “Nemo” fish — and parrotfish.

Watching fish move naturally around the coral was completely different from seeing marine life through an aquarium.

Here, we were inside their world.

There was no glass separating us from the reef.

Just the sea, the coral, the fish and the sound of our own breathing.

🤿 30–40 Minutes Beneath the Sea

The complete scuba diving experience took approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, including preparation, briefing and training.

The actual underwater experience lasted approximately 30–40 minutes.

Thirty minutes may sound short.

But underwater, every moment feels different.

There is no rush.

You simply move slowly, look around and allow the underwater world to reveal itself.

For a first-time diver, those minutes can become some of the most memorable moments of an Andaman trip.

During the actual dive, the instructor remains with the participants and guides them through the underwater experience.

For beginners, following the instructor’s instructions carefully is essential.

🏊 Do You Need to Be an Expert Swimmer?

According to the experience featured in this episode, prior swimming expertise was not required for this introductory scuba-diving experience.

However, participants should always disclose their swimming ability, medical conditions or concerns to the diving operator before participating and follow the operator’s eligibility and safety requirements.

The instructor’s guidance remains essential throughout the activity.

Scuba diving creates completely different photography opportunities from normal beach photography.

Instead of photographing the beach from the shore, the camera becomes a way to capture an underwater landscape.
