SARBAL TO SONMARG TAXI STAND | KASHMIR VLOG – DAY 8 EP 12
Some journeys are about reaching somewhere.
Others are about slowly leaving somewhere you never wanted to leave.
Day 8 – Episode 12 of our Kashmir journey captures one of those quiet moments.
We leave Sarbal, the peaceful last village on the Sonmarg side of the journey, and begin our return towards the Sonmarg Taxi Stand.
There is no rush.
No elaborate narration.
Just the road.
The mountains.
The snow.
The pine forests.
The sunlight.
And the feeling that something beautiful is slowly coming to an end.
🏔️ LEAVING SARBAL
Sarbal lies beyond the main tourist areas of Sonmarg, close to the route towards Baltal and Zoji La Pass.
Here, Kashmir feels quieter.
The crowds begin to disappear.
The landscape becomes increasingly dominated by mountains, forests and snow.
As our vehicle begins moving back towards Sonmarg, every glance through the window reveals another postcard-like frame.
Snow-covered slopes.
Tall pine trees.
Sunlight falling across the valley.
And a winding mountain road disappearing around the next bend.
❄️ SNOW BEHIND US
The further we travel away from Sarbal, the more the landscape slowly changes.
The snow remains visible across the higher slopes and roadside areas, but gradually begins to give way to the familiar colours of the valley.
Yet somehow, it feels as though the snow is following us.
Every white-covered mountain becomes another memory.
Every turn becomes another photograph.
Every patch of sunlight becomes another moment to remember.
The journey may be taking us away from the snow, but emotionally, we are still there.
🌲 THROUGH THE PINE FORESTS
The road winds through beautiful Himalayan scenery.
Tall trees stand along the mountain slopes.
Snow rests quietly beneath them.
Occasionally, sunlight breaks through the forest and illuminates sections of the road.
These are the moments that make a road journey through Kashmir so special.
The destination may be important.
But sometimes the road itself becomes the destination.

There is something magical about sunlight falling across snow.
The white landscape reflects the light.
The mountains appear brighter.
The shadows become deeper.

Our return journey eventually brings us closer to Sonmarg.
The quiet mountain roads gradually lead back towards the more familiar tourist area.
The Sonmarg Taxi Stand serves as an important starting point for local sightseeing and taxi journeys towards the surrounding snow regions.
After spending time among the mountains and snow, returning here feels almost like stepping back into the ordinary world.
But the memories remain.
📍 ABOUT THE SARBAL–SONMARG ROUTE
The drive from Sarbal towards Sonmarg is relatively short, generally taking around 15–20 minutes, depending on road and weather conditions.
Yet within this short distance, the landscape can change dramatically.
Snow-covered areas.
Forest-covered slopes.
Mountain streams.
Open valleys.
And the beautiful Himalayan backdrop.
It is a small section of road with a surprisingly large collection of memories.
🧭 HOW TO REACH SONMARG
✈️ BY AIR
The nearest major airport is Srinagar International Airport (SXR), approximately 80 km from Sonmarg.
From the airport, travellers can continue by taxi or private vehicle towards Sonmarg.
🚗 BY ROAD
Sonmarg can be reached from Srinagar by road, generally taking around 3 hours, depending on traffic and weather conditions.
The route passes through beautiful landscapes around Ganderbal and Kangan before reaching the Sonmarg region.
🚕 BY TAXI
Local union taxis operate in Sonmarg for sightseeing and access towards certain snow-covered areas.
Depending on the route, snow conditions and current local rates, sightseeing taxi fares may vary.
🎟️ ENTRY & TRAVEL COST
There is generally no separate entry fee for visiting Sarbal or Sonmarg.
Local union taxis may operate fixed-rate sightseeing packages, with fares depending on the destination, season and prevailing snow conditions.

A beautiful transition period when snow can still cover large sections of the landscape while lower areas begin showing signs of spring.

The winter season can transform Sonmarg into a spectacular snow-covered landscape, although road conditions can be challenging and access may be restricted depending on weather.
