Chapter 9 – Beneath the Surface

S ome truths stay hidden because they are lost.
Some—
because they are protected.

🌊 Havelock Island

The island didn’t feel like a place.
It felt like a shift.

The moment we stepped out of the ferry—
the air changed.

Cleaner.
Sharper.
Alive.

“Welcome to Havelock,” our new driver said.
“Now Swaraj Dweep… but Havelock bollei sobai bujhe.”

“Good,” I said.
“Simple thakuk.”

Arindam Da didn’t respond.

His eyes were already scanning.

Not the beach.
Not the crowd.

Something else.

🏨 Quick Reset

Hotel check-in was smooth.

Rooms assigned.
Bags dropped.

“Lunch 1 PM,” reception said.
“Scuba pickup 1:30.”

Tight schedule.

“Don’t eat heavy,” the dive coordinator warned.

Subho Kaku frowned.

“Eta kon rule?”

“Science,” Arindam Da replied.

He still ate.

Just… controlled.

🤿 Dive Briefing

Scuba Diving in Havelock

The dive center was simple.

Wooden structure.
Equipment lined up.
Salt in the air.

“First time?” instructor asked.

“Yes,” I said.

“Then listen carefully.”

We sat.

Briefing started:
✔ How to breathe
✔ Hand signals
✔ Equalizing pressure
✔ What not to do

“Most important,” he said—

“Don’t panic underwater.”

I nodded.

Then quietly—

“Dada… panic hole?”

“Then control it,” Arindam Da said.

Very helpful.

😄 Pre-Dive Reality

Wetsuit wasn’t comfortable.

At all.

“Eta ke design kore?” I muttered.

“To keep you alive,” Ishani Di replied.

Fair.

She adjusted her mask.

Focused.

Calm.

Arindam Da stepped closer.

“Strap tight ache?”

She nodded.

“You okay?”

A small pause.

“Yes.”

Then—
she looked at him.

“You?”

He nodded.

Always steady.

But I noticed—

His attention wasn’t on the dive.

It was on her.

🌊 Entering the Water

The first step—
shock.

Cold.

Unexpected.

“Slow,” instructor guided.

We moved carefully.

Water rising—
ankle… waist… chest…

Then—
float.

Then—
submerge.

🤿 The Underwater World

Everything changed.

Sound disappeared.

Not completely—
but differently.

Only one thing remained clear—

Breathing.

Inhale.
Exhale.

Bubbles rising above.

Light breaking into pieces.

And below—

A different world.

Fish.
Bright.
Effortless.

Coral.
Still.
Ancient.

For a moment—
I forgot everything.

No mystery.
No diary.

Just—
this.

🔍 The Shift

Instructor signaled—
follow.

We moved deeper.

Water darker now.

Colder.

And then—
I saw it.

At first—
just another rock.

Then—
my mind caught it.

Lines.

Too straight.
Too deliberate.

I moved closer.

Heart rate rising.

Because something inside me—
already knew.

The Symbol

Carved into the rock—

A pattern.

Not natural.

Not random.

Intentional.

The same symbol.

From the diary.

Clear.

Unmistakable.

I pointed.

Almost forgetting to stay calm.

Arindam Da turned.

Saw it.

His entire posture changed.

Sharp.

Focused.

Ishani Di moved beside me.

Her hand hovered—

just above the carving.

She didn’t touch it.

As if—
touching it would break something.

❤️ The Silent Exchange

Underwater—
words don’t exist.

But meaning does.

She looked at Arindam Da.

He met her eyes.

And nodded.

That one nod—
said everything.

This is real.

👁️ Something Off

Then—
a feeling.

Not visual.

Instinct.

I turned.

A diver.

Far.

Too still.

Watching.

Not exploring.

Not moving.

Just—
there.

I blinked.

Water shifted.

And he was gone.

Maybe nothing.

Maybe everything.

🌊 Return

We surfaced slowly.

Air hit differently.

Louder.
Warmer.

Real.

I removed the mask.

“Dada…” I started.

“I saw it,” he said.

No surprise.

No doubt.

Ishani Di took a breath.

“It’s the same.”

Arindam Da nodded.

“Yes.”

😄 Rit Reality Mode

“Great,” I said.

“So now… underwater clue confirmed.”

“Normal trip continues.”

No one reacted.

Because we all knew—

Nothing was normal anymore.

🧠 The Realization

Back on the boat—
I looked at the sea.

Calm again.

As if nothing had happened.

But something had.

Because now—
the mystery had weight.

Physical.

Carved.

Hidden.

Waiting.

🔚 End Hook

As we returned to shore—
one thought stayed with me.

This wasn’t just history.

This wasn’t just a story.

This was a trail.

And someone—
had left it behind—

step by step.
Clue by clue.

From land…
to water…

And we had just followed the second one.
