πŸ”οΈ We Were Leaving Sonmarg… But This Road Made Us Look Back One Last Time! | Day 8 Ep 13

πŸ”οΈ β€œSometimes the road home becomes the most beautiful part of the journey β€” because every turn asks us to look back once more.”

πŸ”οΈ The Road That Remembers – Leaving Sonmarg Behind

Some journeys end at a destination.

Others continue for a little while on the road back home.

Our Kashmir Vlog Day 8 – Episode 13 begins as we leave Sonmarg and start our return journey towards Srinagar.

But leaving Sonmarg didn’t feel like simply travelling from one place to another.

Every bend in the road brought another view.

The Sind River flowed beside us.

Snow-covered peaks slowly disappeared into the distance.

Pine forests moved gently in the mountain breeze.

And with every kilometre, Sonmarg seemed to become a little farther away.

Yet somehow, the memories became stronger.

πŸ›£οΈ Leaving Sonmarg – One Last Look

The Road That Remembers – Sonmarg Return Journey

There is a strange emotion attached to leaving a beautiful place.

When you first arrive, you’re looking forward to discovering everything.

But when you leave, you already know what you’re going to miss.

That was our feeling as we began our return from Sonmarg.

The same mountains that had welcomed us now became part of the landscape behind us.

The road continued forward.

But our eyes kept looking back.

🏞️ Sonmarg – The Meadow of Gold

Sonmarg means β€œMeadow of Gold”, and the name perfectly captures the changing beauty of this Himalayan destination.

Located at approximately 2,800 metres above sea level, Sonmarg is surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery and is closely associated with the Thajiwas Glacier, Sind River valley and the routes towards Baltal and Zoji La.

During different seasons, the landscape changes dramatically.

Snow transforms the valley into a winter wonderland.

Spring reveals flowing streams and fresh greenery.

Summer brings open meadows and clearer mountain views.

And autumn gradually changes the colours of the surrounding landscape.

That constant transformation is part of Sonmarg’s charm.

🌊 The Sind River – Our Companion on the Road

One of the most beautiful elements of the return journey was the Sind River.

At several points, the river appeared alongside the road, reflecting the surrounding mountains and sky.

Sometimes it moved quietly.

Sometimes it rushed over rocks.

And sometimes it seemed to disappear behind trees before returning beside the highway again.

The river gave the drive a natural rhythm.

Road.

River.

Mountain.

Forest.

Sky.

Then another bend.

Then another view.

πŸ”οΈ Mountains Slowly Fading Away

As we moved farther from Sonmarg, the dramatic mountain scenery gradually changed.

The peaks became more distant.

Snow patches became less dominant.

The valley widened.

But the beauty never really disappeared.

It simply changed character.

This is one of the things we love about travelling through Kashmir.

The destination may have a name.

But the road connecting two destinations can be just as memorable.

🌲 Pine Forests Along the Route

The pine-covered landscape added another layer to the journey.

Tall trees stood along the slopes while the road curved through the valley.

The combination of:

🌲 Pine forests

πŸ”οΈ Himalayan mountains

🌊 Flowing rivers

πŸ›£οΈ Winding roads

☁️ Changing skies

created a landscape that constantly changed from one frame to the next.

For anyone who enjoys road photography, this kind of journey is a reminder to keep the camera ready even when there is no specific sightseeing stop.

πŸ“Έ Photography Along the Sonmarg Road

A scenic road trip through Kashmir provides countless opportunities for photography.

Instead of photographing only famous landmarks, look for the small details along the journey.

πŸ“Έ A winding road disappearing around a mountain

🌊 The Sind River beside the highway

🌲 Pine trees framing the road

πŸ”οΈ Snow remaining on distant peaks

πŸš— A vehicle travelling through the valley

☁️ Clouds touching the mountains

πŸ’§ River reflections

These photographs can sometimes tell the story of a journey better than a single destination photograph.

πŸ“· The Art of Photographing a Moving Journey

Road-trip photography is different from traditional landscape photography.

The landscape keeps moving.

The light changes.

The vehicle doesn’t always stop.

So be ready.

Keep your camera accessible.

Watch for openings between trees.

Look ahead for curves in the road.

And don’t be afraid to photograph through the vehicle window when the scene suddenly becomes beautiful.

Some of the best travel photographs are not planned.

They happen for just a few seconds.

πŸŒ„ When the Road Becomes the Destination

We often think of travel in terms of destinations.

Srinagar. Pahalgam. Gulmarg. Sonmarg.

But sometimes the most memorable moments happen between them.

A quiet stretch of highway.

A river appearing unexpectedly.

A mountain reflected in the water.

A patch of snow beside the road.

A village passing by.

These moments don’t necessarily appear on an itinerary.

But they become part of the journey.

That is exactly what happened on our return from Sonmarg.

🧭 How to Reach Sonmarg

Sonmarg is located in the Kashmir Valley and is accessible by road from Srinagar.

✈️ By Air

The nearest major airport is Srinagar International Airport, approximately 80 km from Sonmarg by road, depending on the exact route and traffic conditions.

πŸš— By Road

The usual road journey from Srinagar travels through the Kashmir Valley towards Sonmarg, passing through areas including Ganderbal and Kangan.

The route itself is one of the attractions, with mountain scenery, villages, rivers and changing landscapes.

πŸš† By Rail

For visitors arriving by train from other parts of India, onward road travel is required to reach Sonmarg.

The broader rail connectivity of the Kashmir region has developed over time, so travellers should check the current railway route and operating services when planning their journey.

🎟️ Sonmarg Entry & Local Transport

There is generally no separate entry fee simply for visiting Sonmarg’s scenic areas.

However, local transportation arrangements can apply for certain destinations beyond the main Sonmarg area.

Based on our travel information:

πŸš• Local union taxi: approximately β‚Ή1,500–₹2,500 depending on destination, route and snow conditions.

Actual fares can change depending on season, weather, vehicle type and local regulations.

πŸ•°οΈ Best Time to Visit Sonmarg

Sonmarg looks completely different in different seasons.

🌸 March – April

Melting snow, flowing water and the arrival of spring create a fascinating transition between winter and summer.

🌿 May – August

The valley becomes greener and the weather is generally more comfortable for sightseeing and road trips.

❄️ December – February

Heavy snowfall can transform Sonmarg into a dramatic winter landscape.

However, winter travel can also be affected by snow, road conditions and access restrictions.

Always check current local conditions before travelling.

β˜• A Simple Travel Tip

If you’re travelling through the Sonmarg region, carry a thermos of hot tea or coffee.

It sounds simple.

But there is something special about stopping beside a mountain road, looking at the Sind River and enjoying something warm while surrounded by cold Himalayan air.

And don’t rush.

If the weather and road conditions allow, take a few safe pauses along the journey.

Sometimes one unexpected stop becomes the photograph you remember most.

πŸŽ₯ A Silent Journey Home

This episode belongs to our silent travel series.

There is deliberately very little narration.

Instead, the journey is carried by:

🌬️ Wind through the mountains

πŸš— The quiet hum of the vehicle

🌊 Flowing water

🌲 Trees moving in the breeze

πŸ”οΈ Distant mountain landscapes

πŸ›£οΈ The rhythm of the road

We believe travel doesn’t always need to be explained.

Sometimes you simply need to watch.

And feel.

🀍 The Emotion of Leaving

Leaving a place you’ve just experienced creates a strange mixture of emotions.

You’re tired.

You’re satisfied.

You’re already thinking about home.

But at the same time, part of you wants the journey to continue.

That feeling was especially strong on this road.

Sonmarg was disappearing behind us.

Yet every beautiful bend made us want to stop and look one more time.

πŸ”οΈ One Last Look at Kashmir’s Mountains

There is something deeply nostalgic about a mountain road viewed from a moving vehicle.

The scenery changes constantly, but certain moments stay with you.

A mountain peak appearing between trees.

The Sind River catching sunlight.

A snowy ridge in the distance.

A road disappearing into the valley.

These are the images that remain long after the journey ends.

πŸ“Έ The Road That Remembers

TravelWithSurajit – The Road That Remembers, Sonmarg

Perhaps that’s why this road felt different.

It seemed to carry memories.

Memories of arriving.

Memories of snow.

Memories of mountain silence.

Memories of photographs taken along the way.

Memories of standing beneath the Himalayan sky.

And now, it carried us away.

But the road didn’t really take the memories with it.

It left them with us.

πŸ›£οΈ Sonmarg to Srinagar – More Than a Return Drive

A return journey can easily become something we rush through.

We’re thinking about the hotel.

The next destination.

The airport.

The train.

The packing.

But Kashmir taught us something different.

The journey back deserves to be experienced too.

The road from Sonmarg towards Srinagar is not merely a route between two places.

It is part of the experience.

πŸ’™ How This Journey Felt

Our Sonmarg chapter was slowly coming to an end.

But the mountains weren’t finished telling their story.

The road kept unfolding.

The Sind River stayed close.

The forests moved beside us.

And the snow-covered peaks slowly faded behind the horizon.

There was no need for dramatic words.

The landscape said everything.

This was a farewell.

Quiet.

Beautiful.

And slightly difficult.

πŸŒ„ From Sonmarg With Memories

Every trip eventually reaches the moment when you have to leave.

But leaving does not necessarily mean saying goodbye forever.

Sometimes it means carrying a piece of the destination with you.

For us, Sonmarg became more than a location on our Kashmir itinerary.

It became:

❄️ Snow

πŸ”οΈ Mountains

🌊 River

🌲 Forest

πŸ“Έ Photographs

🀍 Memories

And one unforgettable road home.

The Road That Remembers

We were leaving Sonmarg.

But the mountains kept giving us reasons to look back.

A river flowed beside the road.

Pine forests moved in the wind.

Snow peaks slowly disappeared behind us.

And somewhere between one bend and the next, we realised that the journey wasn’t really ending.

It was simply becoming a memory.

πŸ’ Final Thoughts

The Road That Remembers – Scenic Return From Sonmarg

Some roads take you somewhere.

Some roads bring you home.

And some roads make you look back one last time.

Our return from Sonmarg was one of those journeys.

The road moved forward, but our memories stayed behind β€” among the mountains, beside the Sind River, beneath the pine trees and across the snowy landscapes of Sonmarg.

πŸ”οΈ Sometimes the most beautiful farewell isn’t at the destination.

πŸ›£οΈ It’s somewhere along the road home.
