The car burst out of darkness into light… and suddenly—the valley of Sonamarg opened before them like a dream untouched by time. Snow-covered peaks stood still beneath a pale blue sky, while the Sindh River flowed beside the road—restless, bright, cutting through the silence of the mountains. For a moment… everyone forgot everything.
🌄 “Beautiful…” Ananya whispered.
Even Akash couldn’t deny it. But before the feeling could settle—something shifted.
🚗 The car ahead didn’t stop. It slowed near the parking area… then moved past it.
Akash noticed immediately.
“Why is she going ahead?” he murmured.
No one answered.
Inside the other car—Depabali sat still, her eyes fixed outside. But she wasn’t seeing Sonamarg.
“Stop here,” she said quietly.
The driver obeyed. The car halted at a quiet stretch—away from the crowd… away from noise.
Asha looked at her—silent… observing.
🚶♀️ Depabali stepped out. Cold air rushed against her face. Her dark blue jacket tightened around her, hands slipping inside for warmth. But it wasn’t the cold she felt… it was something older.
She walked a few steps forward… then stopped.
🔙 And slipped back into the past.
They had shared everything—time… space… silence… understanding.
But one thing—they had never said.
Love.
Not once. Not when it first began… not when it grew… not even when it mattered the most.
Depabali closed her eyes. She had known… from early on.
What she felt for Akash was not friendship.
But she had never said it.
Because she was afraid.
What if he didn’t feel the same?
What if saying it ruined everything they had?
Friendship was safe.
Love… was a risk.
And she had chosen safety.
Years later—standing alone in Sonamarg—she understood the cost.
Behind her—Akash stepped out of his car. His eyes searched… and found her.
Standing alone.
He didn’t call her. Didn’t walk immediately.
Because something held him back.
The same thing—that had held him back years ago.
What if…
The thought never completed… because it never had.
🌿 The valley stretched endlessly. Two people stood within it.
And between them—a distance built not by time… but by silence.
