🌾A Fresh Morning & The Road to Sonamarg Begins

🌅 A Relaxed Start at Hassanz Enclave

After a well-deserved rest, Day 8 of our Kashmir Tour began on a fresh note at Hassanz Enclave Hotel, Srinagar. We woke up around 6:30 AM, feeling relaxed and energized. Today was special — our plan was to visit Sonamarg, one of the most must-see destinations in Kashmir.

☕ Morning Routine & Gentle Sunshine

Sonamarg Adventures - Kashmir Vlog: Day 8 - TravelWithSurajitAfter completing our morning essentials — bed tea, bath, and packing only the necessities for the day (camera, mobile, jackets, raincoats) — we were ready by 8:00 AM and headed down to the dining area. The morning sunlight made everything feel calm and pleasant.

As breakfast took a little time to be served, we stepped into the hotel garden, enjoying the warm sunshine. Seasonal flowers were in bloom, and we spent a few peaceful moments clicking photos — of flowers, of smiles, and of ourselves.

🍳 Breakfast Before the Journey

Once breakfast was ready, we returned to the dining hall. Like every other day, the spread was generous and satisfying.

  • I enjoyed Chole Bhature, an omelette, watermelon, and black coffee
  • Titli stuck to her favorite — bread, butter, and omelette.

A perfect breakfast before a long scenic drive.

🧾 A Small Hotel Formality

At the reception, I was informed about a pending payment. Since this was supposed to be handled by my travel agent, I called them immediately. They requested me to pay the room rent, assuring that it would be adjusted against the package amount.

Due to a temporary issue with online payment, I informed the hotel that I’d settle it in cash after returning from Sonamarg — they agreed without any hesitation. Once again, the hotel staff showed understanding and cooperation.

🚗 Meeting Our New Driver & Departure

As informed earlier by Zuneid Bhai, a new driver would accompany us today. Around 8:50 AM, Sartaz Bhai arrived at the hotel with the same familiar vehicle — the grey 7-seater Ertiga (WB 6935).

With bags settled and excitement building, we finally started our journey around 9:00 AM, heading towards Sonamarg, ready for glaciers, Himalayan views, and another unforgettable chapter of our Kashmir story.

🌾 The Road That Leads to Ladakh & A Golden Pause

🚗 On the Highway to the Himalayas

Soon after leaving Srinagar, we took the Srinagar–Sonmarg highway, the same historic road that continues towards Zoji La Pass, Kargil, and Ladakh. Sonmarg is rightly called the Gateway to Ladakh, and the feeling of stepping onto this route is something special.

🌼 A Golden Pause in the Mustard Fields

Midway through the journey, we paused near vast mustard fields spread between Srinagar and Sonmarg. The sight was breathtaking.
Everywhere we looked, it was yellow and yellow — glowing under the soft morning sun like a field of gold.

We stopped to take photos and capture videos, soaking in the calm beauty of the countryside. The silence, the colors, and the gentle breeze made this short break feel unforgettable.

🏔️ A Slow & Scenic Drive Toward Sonmarg

With scenic views unfolding on both sides of the road, we continued our drive. Around 12 noon, we reached the area near Atal Tunnel. The total distance to Sonmarg is about 80 kilometers, usually covered in 2.5 to 3 hours.

Our new driver, Sartaz Bhai, drove carefully and calmly. The pace was slower than before, but in a place like this, slow travel feels just right.

✨ When the Road Becomes the Experience

The journey from Srinagar to Sonmarg is not just a drive — it is a gradual unfolding of Kashmir’s raw poetry.

As Srinagar faded behind us, the city’s gentle bustle gave way to rolling meadows, sparkling streams, and towering mountains. The Sindh River often runs alongside the road, its clear waters gliding over stones like a moving mirror.

Pine forests line the highway. Small villages appear occasionally — modest homes, grazing cattle, and children waving as vehicles pass by. The ascent is gradual, making the drive comfortable and relaxing rather than tiring.

At several bends, the road suddenly opens up to postcard-perfect views — snow-capped peaks in the distance, golden grasslands, and mist drifting lazily across the valley.

🚙 Ways to Experience the Srinagar–Sonmarg Route

Travelers can enjoy this beautiful stretch in different ways:

  • Private Taxi / Tour Vehicle – Most comfortable and flexible, ideal for families and photographers
  • Shared Taxi – Budget-friendly, but with limited stops.
  • Self-Drive – Possible in good weather; winter needs mountain-driving experience.
  • Bike Ride (Seasonal) – A dream route during summer months.

❄️ Seasonal Magic on the Road

In winter and early spring, snowfall and icy patches slow the journey, but they also turn the landscape into a white wonderland. In summer, the road bursts with greenery, wildflowers, and flowing rivers — equally magical in a different way.

🌄 When the Destination Feels Secondary

By the time Sonmarg — the “Meadow of Gold” — begins to appear, you realize something quietly beautiful has already happened.
The destination almost feels secondary, because the road itself has already gifted you unforgettable moments.

This journey is not measured in kilometers or hours.
It is measured in silence, wonder, and memories.

❄️ The First Rush of Excitement – Crossing the Atal Tunnel

📍 A Signboard That Changed the Mood

The excitement truly began to rise the moment we spotted the signboard:
“Atal Tunnel – 3 km”.

Until then, it had been a beautiful mountain drive. Suddenly, it felt historic.
We were about to pass through one of India’s greatest engineering achievements.

🏗️ An Engineering Marvel Beneath the Himalayas

Crossing the Atal Tunnel, the world’s longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet, is not just about saving time. It is about witnessing human ambition carved deep into the Himalayas.

Stretching 9.02 kilometers, the tunnel runs beneath the Rohtang Pass, connecting Manali with the Lahaul–Spiti Valley. What once took 5–6 exhausting hours over treacherous mountain roads now takes just 10–15 smooth minutes — and remains accessible even during harsh winters.

🌡️ Approaching the Tunnel Entrance

As we moved closer to the entrance, the temperature dropped sharply.
A quiet seriousness filled the car.

The mountains stood tall and silent, almost as if they were watching us prepare to pass through their heart.

🚘 Inside the Tunnel – Silence, Light & Awe

The moment we entered, the outside world vanished.

Snow peaks disappeared.
Thick concrete walls surrounded us.
Warm yellow lights stretched ahead like a glowing ribbon.

The tunnel felt wide, clean, and exceptionally well-maintained — a striking contrast to the unpredictable mountain roads outside.

There were no sharp turns.
No steep climbs.
Just smooth motion.

Emergency exits, ventilation shafts, and signboards passed rhythmically as kilometers slipped away. Mobile signals faded. Conversations softened. For a few minutes, everyone simply absorbed the moment.

✨ A Mix of Powerful Emotions

Inside the tunnel, emotions quietly blended:

  • Awe at the sheer scale of engineering
  • Relief, knowing how many lives this tunnel supports during winter
  • Excitement, because something new awaited on the other side

🌄 The Exit – Stepping into a New World

Then came the exit.

As we emerged, it felt like stepping into a different universe.
The greenery of Manali slowly gave way to rugged brown mountains, open valleys, and sharper air.

The sky felt closer.
The land felt wilder.
The silence felt deeper.

Crossing the Atal Tunnel wasn’t just a transition between two places.
It was a transition between two worlds, two climates, and two emotions.

At that moment, we knew —
✨ The real adventure had officially begun.

🏔️ Step Into Kashmir’s Winter Realm – Sonmarg Taxi Stand Entry

🌬️ A Silent Shift in the Air

The moment our vehicle rolled past the final mountain bends after crossing the Atal Tunnel, everything changed.

The air grew sharper.
The mountains widened.
And the silence deepened.

Without any announcement, Kashmir’s winter realm welcomed us.

As we moved closer to Sonmarg, the landscape transformed dramatically. Snow-covered peaks stood guard on all sides. Frozen streams glimmered under soft daylight. What once felt like a destination now unfolded slowly, frame by frame, like a cinematic reveal.

🚖 Entering Sonmarg – Where Private Cars Pause

At the Sonmarg Taxi Stand, private vehicles usually stop, especially during winter or heavy snowfall. This system ensures safety on icy roads and supports the local economy.

Here’s how it works:

  • 🚗 Private vehicles stop at Sonmarg Taxi Stand
  • 🚙 Local union taxis (mostly 4×4 vehicles) take over
  • 💰 Rates vary based on weather, distance, and road conditions
  • 🧭 Popular routes include Thajiwas Glacier, Zero Point, Baltal, and nearby snow zones

As we stepped out of our car, the soundscape changed instantly. Engines idled. Drivers called out destinations. Boots crunched on snow. Somewhere below, the Sindh River whispered beneath layers of ice.

❄️ First Touch of Sonmarg Snow

This was our first real encounter with Kashmir snow at close quarters.

Everything was blanketed in white — roads, rooftops, parked vehicles, even signboards. The cold was intense, yet refreshing. It was the kind of cold that makes you breathe deeper and smile without realizing it.

Around the taxi stand, life moved steadily:

  • ☕ Vendors serving hot Kahwa
  • 🧤 Woolen gloves, caps, and socks for sale
  • 🥾 Snow boots and jackets available for rent
  • 🍜 Steaming Maggi stalls, comforting against the cold air

Every face carried a story. Drivers waited patiently. Locals moved gracefully in their pherans. Tourists stood still — caught between excitement and disbelief.

🏔️ A Gateway to Snow Adventures

Sonmarg, known as the “Meadow of Gold,” sits at an altitude of approximately 2,730 meters (8,960 feet) above sea level. During winter, it transforms from a green meadow into a vast white playground.

From here, travelers can:

  • 🐎 Visit Thajiwas Glacier (by pony or on foot)
  • ❄️ Travel towards Zero Point (season-dependent)
  • 📸 Enjoy snow activities like sledging and photography
  • 🌨️ Or simply stand still and absorb the Himalayan silence

For us, standing at the Sonmarg Taxi Stand felt symbolic.
This was the threshold between comfort and adventure.

With cameras ready, jackets zipped tight, and excitement rising with every breath of cold air, we knew —
✨ What lay ahead would be unforgettable.

🏔️ Frozen Majesty – Sonmarg Glacier Point, Table Top & Last Village

🚙 Hiring a Local Union Taxi – Gateway to the Snow World

Upon arrival at the Sonmarg Taxi Stand, we hired a local union 4×4 taxi for ₹2,500. Gumboots were included — essential for walking safely on the deep snow and icy paths.

Over the next 2.5 to 3 hours, we explored some of Sonmarg’s most breathtaking winter spots:

  • 🧊 Glacier Point
  • ❄️ Table Top
  • 🏔️ The Last Village

Unfortunately, Zero Point was inaccessible due to heavy ice blockage. Many vehicles had been waiting for 2–3 days, hoping the road would reopen. Even so, what we experienced instead felt nothing short of magical.

🏔️ Frozen Majesty – Sonmarg Glacier Point Scenic Ride

From the taxi stand, our true snow journey began.

We climbed into the local 4×4, the only vehicle capable of handling these frozen routes. Within minutes, the ordinary road disappeared behind us. What followed was not just a drive — it was a slow ascent into a winter dreamland.

Snow-covered mountains rose silently on both sides. Their rugged faces were softened by thick white blankets. Below, the Sindh River, partly frozen, twisted through the valley — sometimes dull white, sometimes flashing silver where water still flowed.

🛣️ The Scenic Ride – Distance, Time & Travel Details

  • 📍 Distance: Approx. 3–5 km (depending on glacier access)
  • ⏱️ Time: 20–30 minutes (weather permitting)
  • 🚙 Transport: Local union taxis (4×4 only)
  • 🚫 Private vehicles: Not allowed beyond taxi stand in winter

The road was narrow and icy. Snow walls lined both sides. Tire chains, slow speeds, and careful braking were essential. Yet, the drivers handled every turn with calm confidence — experience shaped by years in the mountains.

❄️ Arrival at Glacier Point – Where Time Stands Still

As the car finally stopped, silence wrapped around us.

We had reached Sonmarg Glacier Point — a place where land vanishes beneath ice and mountains feel close enough to touch.

Snow stretched endlessly in every direction. The air was crisp and thin, making every breath feel fresh and alive. Standing there, we felt incredibly small — yet deeply connected to the vastness around us.

This wasn’t a place for rushing.

It was a place to:

  • 👣 Walk carefully over packed snow
  • ❄️ Feel the crunch beneath your boots
  • 🌬️ Let the cold gently bite your cheeks
  • 🧘 Pause, breathe, and absorb the moment

📸 Photography & Videography – Capturing the Frozen Silence

For us, Glacier Point was a visual treasure.

Every angle felt postcard-perfect — snow ridges, distant peaks, drifting clouds, and untouched white landscapes. Cameras clicked endlessly. Videos rolled non-stop.

Yet, no lens could truly capture what we felt —
the silence, the scale, the stillness.

🧊 A Moment Etched in Ice

Sonmarg Glacier Point was more than our first sightseeing stop.

It became our first emotional connection with Sonmarg.

The frozen landscape set the tone for everything that followed. It reminded us that Kashmir in winter isn’t just seen — it is felt.

As we walked back toward the taxi, hands cold but hearts full, one thing was clear —
This frozen majesty would stay with us long after the snow melted from our shoes.

❄️ Spring Wrapped in Snow – Sonmarg Glacier to Table Top Drive

🌨️ Kashmir’s White Balcony – Sonmarg Table Top Scenic Escape

Leaving behind the frozen stillness of Sonmarg Glacier Point, our journey continued upward — toward a place locals fondly call Table Top.

Wide.
Elevated.
Open to the sky.

It felt less like a destination and more like stepping onto a natural balcony, suspended above Kashmir’s winter wonderland.

🚙 The Scenic Drive – Where Seasons Overlap

From the moment our local 4×4 union taxi began the climb, the road itself became part of the experience.

Snow still ruled the landscape.
Thick and unbroken.

Yet, quietly, spring began to reveal itself —
tiny patches of grass,
melting ice,
subtle signs of change beneath winter’s hold.

It felt rare.
As if two seasons were sharing the same breath.

📍 The Scenic Ride – Distance, Time & Travel Options

🛣️ Distance from Glacier Point: Approx. 2–3 km
⏱️ Time taken: 15–20 minutes (weather and snow dependent)
🚙 Mode of transport: Local union taxis (4×4 only)
🚫 Private vehicles: Not allowed beyond Sonmarg Taxi Stand in winter

The road narrowed further as we climbed.

Snow walls rose on both sides.
At times, the driver slowed to a crawl —
not from hesitation,
but from deep respect for the mountains.

Every turn opened a wider horizon.
Every pause felt intentional.

🏔️ Arrival at Table Top – A Natural Balcony Over Sonmarg

As the vehicle came to a halt, the space around us opened completely.

Table Top revealed its magic instantly.

True to its name, the land flattened into a vast, open platform —
fully blanketed in snow,
offering uninterrupted panoramic views of Sonmarg and the surrounding Himalayan ranges.

From here, the valley stretched endlessly below.
Wrapped in white.
Framed by towering peaks that felt almost unreal.

This is why Table Top is often called:

  • “Kashmir’s White Balcony”
  • A dream viewpoint for photographers
  • One of Sonmarg’s most peaceful scenic escapes

The wind was stronger here, carrying soft whispers from the valley below.
Standing there, it felt as if we were looking at Kashmir from above the clouds.

📸 Photography & Videography – Silence in Frames

Table Top is not a place to rush.

It asks you to slow down.

We walked carefully across the plateau, choosing angles, waiting for light, and letting the silence guide every frame.

For photography and videography, the spot offered:

  • Smooth panoramic sweeps of the valley
  • Dramatic cloud movements
  • Striking contrast between white snow and dark mountain ridges

Cameras clicked.
Videos rolled.
Yet no frame could fully capture the feeling of standing there.

🌸 When Winter Meets Spring

What made Table Top especially memorable was its quiet seasonal contrast.

Snow still ruled the ground.
But the air hinted at change.

Somewhere beneath the white blanket,
spring was waiting patiently.

It reminded us that Kashmir doesn’t change seasons abruptly —
it blends them,
slowly and gracefully.

🤍 A Moment Above the World

As we prepared to leave, we took one last look back.

From this height, Sonmarg looked calm.
Untouched.
Eternal.

And in that quiet moment, one thought stayed with us:

Table Top isn’t just a viewpoint.
It’s the feeling of standing above the world.

❄️ Wrong Turn to Wonder – Sonmarg Table Top’s Icy Surprise Adventure

Just when we thought the adventure at Table Top had reached its peak,
the mountains decided to test us.

After soaking in the panoramic beauty and capturing countless frames of Kashmir’s White Balcony, it was time to head back. Jackets zipped. Cameras lowered. Steps turned downhill.

But snow has a way of rewriting maps.

In our excitement, we unknowingly took a wrong turn.

And within minutes, the familiar route disappeared behind us.

🧭 When Snow Erases the Map

All directions began to look the same.

White upon white.
Smooth curves where footprints once existed.
No signboards.
No visible tracks.

Only the sound of wind brushing over snow —
and the quiet realization that we were not on the right path.

For a brief moment:

  • Excitement gave way to silence
  • Laughter turned into alertness
  • Adventure met responsibility

The slope beneath our boots was icy and unforgiving.
Each step demanded attention.
One slip could send us sliding down an unseen incline.

🧊 Icy Descent – Caution, Courage & Calm

Sonamarg Adventures - Kashmir Vlog: Day 8 - TravelWithSurajitInstead of panic, we chose calm.

Hands held tightly.
Voices steady.
Steps slow and deliberate.

We communicated with every move, trusting instinct over impulse. The cold pressed harder. The wind grew sharper. And the mountains stood still — silent witnesses to how we would respond.

Then something unexpected happened.

The tension began to fade.

🤍 A Hidden Corner of Sonmarg

What started as uncertainty slowly transformed into wonder.

The silence here felt deeper.
The views more untouched.
The snow unmarked and pure.

It felt as though we had wandered into a private corner of Sonmarg —
unseen, unfiltered, and raw.

For a few moments, fear gave way to awe.
And the mountains, instead of intimidating us, quietly welcomed us.

🌄 Adventure Turned Memory

Soon after, we safely reconnected with the correct route.

Relief washed over us.
Almost instantly followed by laughter.

That wrong turn — once worrying — became one of the most memorable moments of our Sonmarg journey.

Later, while revisiting our photos and videos, one truth became clear:

  • The best stories aren’t always planned
  • Some memories are born from uncertainty
  • And sometimes, the wrong path leads to the most unforgettable experiences

🏔️ A Lesson Written in Snow

Sonmarg taught us something important that day.

Snow may look soft and inviting —
but it commands respect.

Nature asks for awareness.
For humility.
For patience.

And yet, it also rewards vulnerability with moments few ever get to witness.

As we descended safely — hearts still racing, smiles wide — one thought echoed clearly:

Not all wrong turns are mistakes.
Some are adventures in disguise.

🏔️ Last Village – Journey to Sarbal from Table Top

Sonamarg Adventures - Kashmir Vlog: Day 8 - TravelWithSurajitLeaving behind the snowy silence of Table Top, our journey gently descended toward a place that felt less like a destination and more like a whisper from another time.

This was Sarbal — known as the last village of the Sonmarg region.

The descent wasn’t dramatic.
It was calm.
Gradual.
Almost reflective.

And with every meter downhill, Sonmarg began to soften.

🚙 The Drive Down – From White Expanse to Quiet Life

The road from Table Top to Sarbal was narrow and uneven, carved carefully through snow-covered slopes. Our 4×4 moved slowly, respecting both terrain and life around it.

As we descended, the landscape began to change.

Endless white expanses slowly gave way to:

  • Humble wooden homes
  • Thin trails of smoke curling from chimneys
  • Narrow paths etched into snow
  • A rhythm of life untouched by tourism’s rush

It felt like crossing an invisible line —
from spectacle to simplicity.

📍 The Drive – Distance, Time & Route Details

  • Distance from Table Top: approx. 4–6 km
  • Time taken: 20–25 minutes (weather dependent)
  • Mode of travel: Local union 4×4 taxis only
  • Road condition: Snow-covered, narrow single-lane stretches in winter

The driver slowed often — not just for safety.

Cattle crossed quietly.
Children walked carefully along the road’s edge.
Villagers passed with unhurried steps.

Here, the road belongs to life first.

🏡 Arrival at Sarbal – Where Sonmarg Grows Quiet

Sonamarg Adventures - Kashmir Vlog: Day 8 - TravelWithSurajitSarbal didn’t announce itself.

No signboards.
No crowds.
No noise.

Just a small cluster of homes resting peacefully against the mountains — frozen fields stretching outward, peaks rising protectively behind.

Life here moves slowly.
Measured by daylight, snowfall, and seasons — not clocks.

Children played near snowbanks, laughter cutting through the cold air. Elderly villagers stood wrapped in pherans, watching the world with calm, knowing eyes.

Time didn’t stop here.
It simply slowed down.

🌿 A Glimpse into Mountain Life

In Sarbal, there were no “attractions.”

Only life.

  • Homes built to endure heavy snowfall
  • Narrow paths cleared daily through ice
  • Livestock sheltered close to warmth
  • Silence broken by wind and distant river sounds

This wasn’t a place to rush.

Photography here required sensitivity.
Observation over intrusion.
Respect over curiosity.

We framed moments gently —
textures of aged wood,
patterns etched in snow,
faces shaped quietly by mountain resilience.

🤍 When Travel Becomes Connection

Standing in Sarbal, gratitude settled in.

This village wasn’t part of a checklist.
It was a window — into Kashmir’s quieter strength.

From the grand snowfields of Table Top to the grounded simplicity of Sarbal, the journey reminded us why travel truly matters.

Not for ticking destinations.
But for understanding stories that rarely get told.

As we prepared to return, one thought lingered softly:

At the edge of the road, before wilderness takes over, Sarbal stands —
quiet, resilient, and beautifully real.

❄️ Snow Behind – Memories Ahead: Sarbal to Sonmarg Taxi Stand Journey

Sonamarg Adventures - Kashmir Vlog: Day 8 - TravelWithSurajitWith Sarbal slowly fading behind us, our journey began its quiet return.

The road that had welcomed us with curiosity now bid us farewell in silence. As the vehicle turned back toward Sonmarg Taxi Stand, the same snow-covered paths retraced our steps — but the feeling was no longer the same.

What once felt like anticipation had gently transformed into reflection.

🚙 The Return Drive – Distance, Time & Final Glimpses

  • Distance: approx. 6–8 km
  • Time taken: 25–30 minutes
  • Vehicle: Local union 4×4 taxi

The road felt smoother this time — not because the ice had disappeared, but because we had learned how to move with it.

Familiar bends passed quietly.
Frozen streams shimmered faintly.
Silent trees stood watch once more.

What felt unknown earlier now felt reassuring — like old friends lining the way.

🧊 A Road That Now Felt Familiar

Sonamarg Adventures - Kashmir Vlog: Day 8 - TravelWithSurajitSnowbanks slid past the windows as the car moved steadily forward. Every curve carried echoes of the day — careful footsteps, shared smiles, moments of awe frozen in time.

The mountains no longer surprised us.
They accompanied us.

And in that familiarity, comfort settled in.

🤍 A Ride Filled with Quiet Conversations

Inside the car, the energy softened.

Cameras rested.
Phones stayed untouched.
No one rushed to speak.

This was the kind of silence that doesn’t ask for words —
the silence of contentment.

Occasionally, a gap between trees revealed the valley once again, drawing our eyes outward. Sonmarg, in its winter form, had revealed itself slowly — generously — without ever asking to be rushed.

📸 When Memories Outnumber Photographs

As we neared the taxi stand, life gradually returned.

Parked vehicles.
Drivers calling out routes.
Travelers preparing for their own snow-filled stories.

Yet inside us, something had shifted.

We realized:

  • Not every moment needs a photograph
  • Some memories settle deeper when left untouched
  • And some journeys stay long after the road ends

🏔️ Leaving Sonmarg, Carrying Its Silence

Stepping out at Sonmarg Taxi Stand, we paused for one final look.

Snow-covered peaks stood unchanged — calm, eternal, indifferent to arrivals and departures.

But we knew something precious had been added to us.

Snow behind.
Memories ahead.

And with that quiet promise, our Sonmarg chapter gently came to a close — ready for the road that awaited us next.

As the engine started and the wheels slowly rolled forward, we knew this wasn’t just a return journey —
it was a gentle goodbye.

Sonmarg began to slip away behind us, wrapped in its white silence. Ahead lay the familiar road back to our temporary home in Kashmir — the place where tired feet would finally rest and memories would quietly settle.

This road didn’t rush us.
It carried us.

📍 Distance, Time & Route Details

  • Route: Sonmarg → Gagangir → Kullan → Gund → Srinagar (Hotel)
  • Distance: approx. 80 km
  • Time taken: 2.5–3.5 hours (weather & traffic dependent)
  • Road condition: Mostly good, with icy patches near Sonmarg and Zojila stretches

🚖 Travel Options

  • Local union taxis from Sonmarg Taxi Stand
  • Pre-booked private cabs from Srinagar
  • Shared taxis (limited availability in winter)

As the road descended, the landscape began to loosen its grip of snow.

🌄 When the Landscape Begins to Change

The transformation was gradual — almost poetic.

Snow-covered silence softened into motion.
Frozen white slopes gave way to:

  • Flowing rivers reclaiming their voice
  • Tall pine forests standing dark and proud
  • Small villages resting quietly along the roadside

Each bend felt familiar yet meaningful — as if the road remembered our journey from the morning and was now guiding us back safely.

🤍 A Ride Filled with Reflections

Inside the car, exhaustion settled gently — the good kind.

The kind earned through:

  • Slippery steps on ice
  • Laughter in unexpected moments
  • Fear slowly turning into thrill
  • Silence becoming gratitude

My daughter leaned against the window, eyes half-closed.
My wife sat quietly, replaying the day in her mind.
And I watched the road — thankful that we chose this journey, despite the cold, the risk, and the uncertainty.

🏔️ Sonmarg Fades, Kashmir Stays

At a quiet roadside pause, we looked back one last time.

The snow peaks were now distant silhouettes — calm, indifferent, eternal.

Sonmarg had given us:

  • Adventure without shouting
  • Beauty without showing off
  • Memories without demanding attention

Not every destination needs drama.
Some places simply stay with you.

🏨 Returning Home, Carrying the Day Within

As evening light softened and the temperature dropped again, familiar signs appeared.

Shops.
Lights.
Distant voices.

This wasn’t just a hotel.

It was our temporary home — a place to rest tired bodies while our minds remained somewhere between glaciers and silence.

We stepped out of the car feeling lighter, yet fuller.

The road had done its job.

It remembered us.
It protected us.
And it brought us back safely.

🍽️ A Meal with a View – Glacier Lunch & Ganderbal Waterfall Stop

Somewhere between snow-covered memories and winding mountain roads, our stomachs finally spoke louder than our excitement.

Only then did we realize —
we hadn’t eaten lunch yet.

Sonmarg had quietly erased hunger from our minds, replacing it with awe, silence, and endless white views. But as the clock moved past 3:30 PM, reality gently returned.

And just like that, the journey offered us one more gift.

⏸️ A Perfect Pause on the Way Back

As we descended toward Ganderbal, our driver slowed the car near a small roadside stop overlooking the mountains and a cascading waterfall.

The sound of rushing water blended with the cool alpine air.

This wasn’t a planned halt.
It was one of those unwritten pauses that often become the most memorable.

The road didn’t ask us to hurry.
It invited us to rest.

Sonamarg Adventures - Kashmir Vlog: Day 8 - TravelWithSurajitBeside the road, icy water thundered down dark rocks — fresh, powerful, and alive.

Melted snow from higher altitudes rushed downward, forming a waterfall that shimmered in the soft afternoon light.

Before eating, we stood quietly for a few moments.

Listening.
Watching.
Breathing.

Cold mist brushed our faces.
Mountains stood silently behind us.
And the road waited patiently.

🍛 Lunch That Tasted Better Because of the View

We stopped at Glacier View Point Hotel, set beside a flowing river, with snow-capped peaks rising gently in the background.

The food was simple.
The setting unforgettable.

We ordered:

  • Hot steamed rice
  • Kashmiri Aloo Dum — rich, flavorful, and comforting
  • Chicken curry with a gentle Kashmiri touch

Nothing fancy.
No luxury.

Yet it tasted extraordinary.

Maybe it was the hunger.
Maybe it was the waterfall’s rhythm.
Or maybe it was the feeling of being exactly where we were meant to be.

We ate slowly, quietly — letting warmth return to our bodies after hours in snow.

🤍 A Moment We Didn’t Know We Needed

As we finished our meal, my daughter smiled and said,
“Baba, we forgot hunger because the day was too beautiful.”

She was right.

This lunch wasn’t just about food.
It was about slowing down.
About letting the journey sink in.
About realizing that some of the best meals aren’t planned — they’re found.

🏧 Small Stops, Lasting Memories

Sonamarg Adventures - Kashmir Vlog: Day 8 - TravelWithSurajitAfter lunch:

  • I withdrew cash from an ATM, as promised in the morning
  • We stopped at a local shop — “Zaminder Dry Fruit”
  • Bought Kahwa tea, Alfalah Khubani, raisins, almonds, cashews, and walnuts

Simple shopping.
Local warmth.
Another layer added to the day.

With warmed hands, full hearts, and content smiles, we got back into the car.

The road called again.

And we followed —
carrying Sonmarg within us, one memory at a time.

🌙 A Gentle Return to Srinagar — Ending Day 8 with Gratitude

Sonamarg Adventures - Kashmir Vlog: Day 8 - TravelWithSurajitThe journey back to Srinagar felt slower than we expected.

As evening settled in, the roads grew crowded.
Eid celebrations were in full swing, and the Tulip Festival had drawn visitors from everywhere. Lights shimmered, streets buzzed with life, and the city moved with festive energy.

Inside the car, though, we were quiet.
Each of us replayed the day in our own way.

We reached Hassanz Enclave at around 8:00 PM.

Tired — but not drained.
When a day fills your heart, the body follows gently.

☕ Warm Tea & Warmer Memories

After a quick refresh, we made ourselves hot tea using the room kettle.
Steam rose softly as we sat together, cups in hand, talking about the day.

Snow.
Silence.
Laughter.
Small moments that stayed longer than photographs.

While the kettle hummed, I slipped back into my routine:

  • Transferred photos and videos to the laptop
  • Backed up the day’s data carefully
  • Charged cameras and mobile phones
  • Cleared memory cards — only to make space, not to erase memories

The real moments were already stored elsewhere.
They didn’t need a hard drive.

🍽️ Dinner & Quiet Conversations

Around 9:30 PM, we went down for dinner.
Before that, I completed the room payment and sent the receipt screenshot to the travel agent — a small but necessary closure to the day.

Dinner was simple and comforting:

  • Fresh roti
  • Flavorful chicken curry
  • A light dessert to end on a sweet note

Nothing fancy.
Just honest food after a long, fulfilling journey.

🌕 A Full Moon Goodbye

After dinner, we stepped into the hotel garden.

The full moon hung bright above us, casting a silver glow over the quiet surroundings. We took a few photographs — unplanned, instinctive, meaningful.

The cold reminded us quickly.
Kashmir nights don’t negotiate.

Smiling, we wrapped up our clicks and headed back inside.

Satisfied.

💤 Resting with Tomorrow in Mind

Soon, it was time to sleep.

Fatigue faded gently as thoughts of tomorrow surfaced —
Yusmarg. Another valley. Another story waiting.

With hearts full and cameras ready, we drifted into rest.
Grateful for everything the day had given us.

Day 8 ended quietly.
Exactly the way it needed to.
