Situated about 80 km from Srinagar, Sonmarg (meaning Meadow of Gold) stands as one of Kashmir’s most enchanting hill stations. Beyond its golden meadows lies the Thajiwas Glacier, an accessible snowy paradise surrounded by majestic peaks. How to Reach Sonmarg:
✈️ By Air: The nearest airport is Srinagar International Airport, around 80 km away.
🚗 By Road: You can hire a taxi or take a shared cab from Srinagar. The drive along the Srinagar–Leh Highway (NH1D) offers unforgettable mountain vistas.
🚆 By Train: Jammu Tawi Railway Station (270 km) is the closest major railhead, connected to all major Indian cities.
Entry Fee & Local Ride Cost:
Sonmarg has no entry fee. Pony rides or local taxi rides to Thajiwas Glacier or Glacier Point usually range between ₹800–₹1500 per person, depending on the season and route.
