The open stretch of Yousmarg Meadows lay calm under a pale sky.
Green patches spread between melting snow, and the distant pine trees stood still, untouched by the quiet conversations happening below.
Akash and Depabali walked slowly across the meadow.
Not alone.
But apart.
Ananya stayed behind with the children, letting them run freely across the soft grass.
This time—
The silence between Akash and Depabali felt different.
Not heavy.
Not uncertain.
Just… understood.
“For ten years…” Depabali said softly, “we lived like parallel lines.”
Akash looked at her.
“Same direction,” she continued.
A faint pause.
“Never touching.”
Akash nodded.
“That’s exactly how it feels,” he said.
The wind brushed lightly across the meadow.
“Life moved forward,” he added.
Depabali glanced at him.
“Did it?” she asked quietly.
Akash smiled faintly.
“It did,” he said.
A pause.
“When my daughter was born…”
His voice softened.
“Everything changed.”
Depabali listened.
“I didn’t realize I could feel that kind of love,” he continued.
A faint breath.
“It filled everything.”
His eyes moved toward the distance—
Where little Deepabali ran freely.
“She became my world,” he said.
There was no doubt.
No hesitation.
Depabali followed his gaze.
A soft smile appeared.
“She’s lucky,” she said.
Akash didn’t respond.
Because he knew—
That statement held more than it said.
“And you?” he asked gently.
Depabali looked ahead.
“My life moved too,” she said.
A pause.
“Just… differently.”
The meadow stretched endlessly.
“I got recognition,” she continued.
“For my work in Bankura.”
Her tone remained steady.
“Commendations. Responsibility. Growth.”
Akash nodded.
“You earned it,” he said.
Depabali smiled faintly.
“Yes,” she said.
A pause.
“But every step forward…”
She stopped.
“…felt a little more alone.”
The truth settled quietly between them.
Akash looked at her.
“You built everything,” he said.
Depabali shook her head slightly.
“I built what I had to,” she replied.
A faint wind passed through the meadow.
“The rest…” she added, “…I left behind.”
Akash understood.
Because he had done the same.
Just in a different way.
“Kashmir…” Depabali said after a moment.
Akash looked at her.
“It feels strange,” she continued.
“How something so far away…”
“…can feel so close.”
Akash nodded.
“It doesn’t feel real,” he said.
“Like a frozen moment,” she added.
They both looked around.
The mountains.
The meadows.
The silence.
“It feels like a dream,” Akash said.
Depabali smiled faintly.
“Maybe it is,” she replied.
A pause.
“A dream we once lived…”
“…and never finished.”
The wind moved softly.
Behind them, Ananya called out to the children.
Life continued.
Simple.
Real.
But here—
For a moment—
Time had paused.
Two lives.
Two paths.
Running side by side.
Never crossing.
And yet—
Never truly separate.
Because some lines—
Even when they don’t meet—
Still define each other.
