NH44 Unfolds: Our Scenic Road Trip to Pahalgam
Day 2 of our Kashmir adventure continues! In this episode, we leave the Dal Lake area [01:45] and embark on the breathtaking road trip to Pahalgam, famously known as the “Valley of Shepherds.”
This immersive video captures our entire journey along the famous National Highway 44 (NH44). About the Journey: Srinagar to Pahalgam
The road trip from Srinagar to Pahalgam is one of the most popular and beautiful drives in Kashmir. The journey covers a distance of approximately 90-100 kilometers and typically takes around 2.5 to 3 hours, not including stops.
- The Highway (NH44): We travel on National Highway 44 (NH44), the longest highway in India, which connects Srinagar all the way to Kanyakumari. This section is the main artery of the Kashmir Valley and is known for its excellent condition and stunning views.
- Key Sights Along the Way: While our video is a continuous, relaxing drive, this route is famous for several key landmarks that you can stop at:
- Pampore: The renowned “Saffron Town of Kashmir”.
- Awantipora Ruins: Historic 9th-century temple ruins located right off the highway.
- Bat Factories: You will pass many shops and small factories famous for making Kashmir willow cricket bats.
- Arriving in Pahalgam: After passing through the major town of Anantnag, the scenery changes. The final stretch of the drive runs alongside the clear, rushing waters of the Lidder River, guiding you right into the ‘Valley of Shepherds’.
