🌄 Day 6 Begins – A Fresh Morning in Cherrapunji

After a peaceful night’s rest, sleep wrapped us early at around 10:30 PM, gifting everyone the much-needed energy for another exciting day in the heart of Cherrapunji.

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitMorning arrived gently. At 6:30 AM, we woke up at San Nael La Resort, greeted by the same crisp chill that had lingered since last evening. The air was fresh, slightly cold—but today, the sky told a different story.

It was bright, sunny, and clear—a perfect day to explore the natural wonders of Sohra 🌿☀️

🧭 Today’s Plan – Adventure with a Surprise

The day was carefully planned, blending nature, adventure, and emotions:

  • 🌊 Seven Sisters Waterfalls
  • 🪨 Mawsmai Cave
  • 🌄 Thangkharang Park (Eco Park)
  • 🌌 Arwah Cave

And as the day would unfold, we would head back to Shillong—but not just for a stay.

🎉 A special Children’s Day surprise awaited in the evening… something that would turn this travel day into a memory for a lifetime.

🏨 Checkout & Journey Ahead

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitToday was also a transition day.
We packed our luggage, as our night stay would shift to Rockski Boutique Hotel—the same cozy stay we had earlier in Shillong.

Travel note for explorers:
📍 Arwah Cave is about 55–60 km from Shillong, taking roughly 2 to 2.5 hours depending on weather and road conditions.

☕ A Calm Start – Tea, Freshness & Morning Vibes

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitBy 8:00 AM, our little trio—me, Suchismita, and Titli—was fully ready.
Fresh, packed, and energized.

There’s something special about slow mornings during travel.
Inside the room, Suchismita prepared a simple yet heartwarming bed tea using the electric kettle—tea bags, warm water, and a peaceful mountain morning ☕

Meanwhile, others were still getting ready, moving at their own relaxed pace.

🌿 Little Moments at the Resort

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitBefore breakfast, we stepped into the hotel’s small park area.

While we clicked a few candid photos, Titli found her own little world—
laughing, playing, and enjoying the swings, slides, and hanging play equipment.

Sometimes, travel isn’t just about destinations…
It’s about these tiny, joyful pauses 💛

🍽️ Breakfast Scenes – A Bengali Favorite

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitBy 8:30 AM, we headed to the restaurant for breakfast.
Not everyone was ready yet—Papai and Sougata were still on their way.

So we decided to start early with Joy and Indra’s families, avoiding the rush.

And today’s breakfast?
A delightful surprise for every Bengali heart ❤️

  • 🥘 Chole Bhature
  • 🍳 Poached Eggs
  • ☕ Tea / Coffee

Simple, filling, and satisfying. Even Titli enjoyed the same meal today!

Around 8:45 AM, Sougata and Papai finally joined.
By 9:20 AM, breakfast wrapped up, followed by some cheerful group photos 📸

🚗 Journey Begins – A Slight Delay, But Full of Excitement

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitBy 9:30 AM, we finally hit the road—
about 30 minutes later than planned, but with full energy and excitement.

The best part?
Our driver had stayed overnight at the hotel, so there was no waiting for the vehicle.
The car was already parked inside the resort premises, ready to roll.

And with that,
our Day 6 journey officially began

🌊 First stop: the majestic Seven Sisters Waterfalls

🌊 First Stop – Seven Sisters Waterfalls (A Different Reality)

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitWithin just 10 minutes of drive, by 9:40 AM, we reached our first destination—
the iconic Seven Sisters Waterfalls, also known as Nohsngithiang Falls or Mawsmai Falls.

Excitement was high… expectations even higher.

But as we stepped toward the viewpoint, reality unfolded differently.

There was no flowing waterfall.
Only vast cliffs, endless greenery, and a silent valley stretched before us.

For a moment, we all stood still—
not in awe, but in quiet disappointment.

That magical “wow” moment we had imagined…
just didn’t arrive this time.

🌿 Finding Beauty Beyond Expectations

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitTravel often teaches you this—
not every famous place will meet your expectations, but every place has its own story.

Just across the road, we discovered a small flowing stream over rocks.
Simple, calm, and untouched.

And somehow…
that became our moment.

We spent around 30 minutes there:

  • Sitting on rocks 🪨
  • Capturing photos and videos 📸
  • Enjoying nature in its raw, quiet form

Sometimes, the unplanned spots feel more real than the iconic ones 💛

📖 About Seven Sisters Waterfalls

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitEven though we didn’t witness its full glory,
Seven Sisters Waterfalls remains one of the most iconic natural wonders of Meghalaya.

Located in the East Khasi Hills, near Cherrapunji (Sohra), this waterfall is famous for:

  • 🌊 Seven parallel streams symbolizing the Seven Sister States of Northeast India
  • ⛰️ A massive drop of around 315 meters (1,033 ft)
  • 🌄 A wide cliff span of nearly 70 meters

During the monsoon season, all seven streams flow together, forming a breathtaking curtain of water—
one of the most photogenic sights in India.

But in winter, like during our visit, the waterfall transforms into a much calmer version,
sometimes almost disappearing.

👉 That’s why timing matters a lot here.

🌄 A Landscape Still Worth Witnessing

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitEven without the waterfall, the place had its charm:

  • Rolling green valleys 🌿
  • Deep limestone cliffs ⛰️
  • Floating clouds creating a dreamy backdrop ☁️

It reminded us—
Meghalaya is not just about waterfalls,
it’s about the entire landscape breathing together.

🚗 Moving Ahead

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitBy 10:10 AM, we wrapped up our time here.

Though the waterfalls didn’t meet our expectations,
the journey didn’t lose its spirit.

Because in travel—
every moment, good or unexpected, becomes part of the story.

And with that mindset,
we moved toward our next destination…

🪨 Mawsmai Cave awaits.

🪨 Into the Depths – Exploring Mawsmai Cave

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitJust a short 4–5 minute drive, and by 10:15 AM, we reached our next destination—
the fascinating Mawsmai Cave.

Located barely 1–2 km from Seven Sisters Waterfalls, these two attractions are incredibly close, making them a perfect combination in any Cherrapunji itinerary.

🌌 A Journey Beneath the Surface

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitStepping into Mawsmai Cave felt like entering a completely different world—
a world shaped silently over thousands of years.

This cave is one of the most accessible and beginner-friendly caves in Meghalaya, making it ideal for families and first-time explorers.

Inside, nature reveals its artistry:

  • Stalactites hanging from the ceiling 🪨
  • Stalagmites rising from the ground
  • Natural limestone formations creating mysterious patterns

⚠️ A Split Decision – Not for Everyone

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitAs we approached the entrance, reality set in.

The cave pathways looked narrow, dark, and slightly suffocating in certain sections.

Because of this,
Suchismita, Monika, and Mou decided not to go inside.

They chose comfort over adventure and stayed back near the entry gate and parking area, waiting for us.

And honestly—that’s the beauty of group travel.
Everyone experiences the journey in their own way 💛

🧭 The Cave Experience – Adventure Begins

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitThe rest of us stepped in.

At first, the cave felt wide and welcoming…
but gradually, it began to narrow.

Soon, we were:

  • Bending low
  • Twisting through tight gaps
  • Carefully stepping over wet, uneven rocks

It wasn’t just sightseeing anymore—
it became an experience.

Despite the tight passages, the cave is well-maintained with:

  • Artificial lighting 💡
  • Marked pathways
  • Safety measures for visitors

🦴 Ancient Secrets Within

One of the most fascinating aspects of Mawsmai Cave is its prehistoric connection.

Within the limestone walls, you can spot fossil imprints,
offering a glimpse into a time long before us.

Natural openings in the cave allow beams of light to enter,
creating dramatic contrasts of light and shadow—
a dream for photographers 📸

⏱️ Duration & Exit Experience

Though the entire cave system is vast,
only about 150 meters is open to visitors.

Still, it was enough to give us a complete adventure.

  • 🕒 Time spent inside: ~30 minutes
  • 🚶 Exit path: Different from entry

After exiting, we walked through a less dense forest path,
slowly returning to the parking area.

By 11:00 AM, we regrouped with everyone outside.

🌄 Thangkharang Park – Where Meghalaya Meets Bangladesh

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitBy 11:30 AM, we arrived at our next destination—
the peaceful and scenic Thangkharang Park, also known as the Eco Park of Cherrapunji.

The drive from Mawsmai Cave to here took around 20–30 minutes, covering roughly 7–9 km through the beautiful landscapes of Cherrapunji.

🌿 A Garden in the Sky

Spread across nearly 100 acres, Thangkharang Park is more than just a park—
it’s a natural viewpoint overlooking another country.

From here, you can witness:

  • 🌏 The vast plains of Bangladesh stretching endlessly
  • 🌊 The majestic Kynrem Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in India
  • 🌄 Deep green valleys and canyon-like landscapes

Standing there almost feels like watching a live satellite view of Earth
calm, wide, and unbelievably beautiful.

📸 Our Moments at Eco Park

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitUnlike the previous stops, this place gave us exactly what we needed—

💡 Why This Place Stands Out

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitUnlike many places in Cherrapunji that require trekking,
Thangkharang Park is easily accessible for everyone

  • 👴 Seniors
  • 👶 Kids
  • 👨‍👩‍👧 Families

It’s a place where you don’t rush…
you simply pause and admire nature from above.

🚗 Moving Ahead

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitBy 12:00 Noon, we wrapped up our time here.

but our Cherrapunji exploration wasn’t over yet.

One last adventure remained.

🌌 Next stop: Arwah Cave

🌌 Arwah Cave – Into Meghalaya’s Prehistoric World

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitBy 12:30 PM, we reached our final destination in Sohra—
the mysterious and less-explored Arwah Cave.

The drive from Thangkharang Park took around 35 minutes, covering approximately 15 km through the scenic Sohra–Shella Road.

🚶‍♂️ The Journey Before the Cave

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitReaching Arwah Cave isn’t just about driving—
it begins with a 15–20 minute scenic walk from the parking area.

The trail offers two paths:

  • A rough natural trail 🌿
  • A paved walkway 🛤️

To boost energy for the walk, we shared chocolates with everyone, especially the kids 🍫
—small things that make travel even more joyful.

🪨 A Cave Unlike Any Other

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitUnlike the more tourist-friendly Mawsmai Cave,
Arwah Cave feels raw, untouched, and deeply adventurous.

This isn’t just a cave—
it’s a journey through time.

🦴 Fossils from 30 Million Years Ago

What makes this cave truly special is its prehistoric significance.

Inside, you can spot:

  • Fossilized fish bones 🐟
  • Ancient shell patterns 🐚

These fossils are believed to be around 30 million years old,
telling a fascinating story of a time when this region was once under the ocean 🌊

🌌 Inside the Cave – A Changing World

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitAs we stepped inside, the environment transformed dramatically:

  • 🌤️ Bright natural light near the entrance
  • 🌑 Dark, mysterious chambers deeper inside

The cave felt larger and more immersive than expected.
Even though around 300 meters is open to visitors, it offers a complete adventure.

Inside, we discovered:

  • Stunning stalactites & stalagmites formations
  • A unique basin-like structure near the entrance
  • An underground stream flowing quietly through the cave 💧

The sound of water, combined with dim lighting, created a calm yet thrilling atmosphere.

⚠️ Adventure Level – A Bit More Challenging

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitCompared to Mawsmai Cave,
Arwah Cave is slightly more demanding:

  • Narrow passages in certain sections
  • Uneven and slippery surfaces
  • Lower lighting conditions

But this is exactly what makes it feel real and adventurous 🌿

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Our Experience Inside

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitThis time, the cave was wide and comfortable enough for everyone to explore together.

🚗 Wrapping Up Cherrapunji Exploration

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitAs we stepped out of the cave,
we realized—

Day 6 in Cherrapunji had given us everything:

  • Calm landscapes 🌿
  • Unexpected moments 😌
  • Underground adventures 🌌

And now,
it was time to head back to Shillong…

But the day wasn’t over yet.

🎉 A special Children’s Day celebration was waiting to surprise the little ones.

🍛 Lunch Break After Adventure – Refueling the Journey

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitBy 2:30 PM, we returned to the parking area of Arwah Cave.

After hours of walking, climbing, and exploring,
one thing was clear—everyone was hungry 😄

So, before heading back to Shillong,
we decided to take a lunch break right there at a small roadside restaurant near the parking area.

🍽️ Simple Food, Perfect Taste

Sometimes, the best meals come from the simplest places.

We ordered a Fish Thali for everyone, which included:

  • 🍚 Rice
  • 🥣 Dal
  • 🥗 Salad
  • 🥦 One vegetable
  • 🐟 Fresh fish curry
  • 🍘 Papad
  • 🍯 Chutney

And honestly…
it was absolutely delicious 💛

After such an adventurous morning, this meal felt even more satisfying.

🚗 Journey Back to Shillong

After lunch and a bit of rest,
we started our return journey around 4:00 PM.

Interestingly, although we had started the day 30 minutes late,
we were now perfectly back on schedule ⏱️

The distance from Cherrapunji to Shillong is around 52 km,
taking roughly 1.5 hours via scenic hill roads.

😴 A Rare Travel Moment

This drive was different for me.

For the first time during this trip…
instead of enjoying the views,

I fell asleep 😴

The tiredness from walking and exploring caves had finally caught up.
And sometimes, even in travel—
rest becomes part of the journey.

🛍️ Police Bazar – The Heart of Shillong

By 5:30 PM, we reached the lively and colorful
Police Bazar—
the most popular shopping hub of the city.

Often called the “Times Square of Shillong”,
this place is a vibrant mix of:

  • Local culture 🏔️
  • Street shopping 🛍️
  • Modern lifestyle 🌆

🎁 Children’s Day Shopping Begins

As planned, this stop was all about celebration prep 🎉

We started with gift shopping for kids:

  • ☂️ Beautiful Shillong-style colorful umbrellas for kids and ladies
  • 📚 I picked up 5 storybooks—one for each child, including Titli

And of course…
our “bargaining master” Sougata took charge 😄
helping everyone get the best deals!

🛒 What We Explored & Bought

Police Bazar is a paradise for shoppers:

  • 🎋 Local handicrafts (bamboo, cane items)
  • 🧣 Traditional Khasi textiles
  • 🧥 Trendy winter wear
  • 🌿 Organic products & spices

We also picked up a few souvenirs for home and family friends
little pieces of Meghalaya to carry back with us 💛

☕ Tea Break & A Small Twist

After shopping, we all sat together for a tea break
—relaxing, chatting, and enjoying the lively evening vibe.

Then we headed back to the hotel in our car…

But suddenly—
we realized something important 😅

🎂 We forgot to buy cake and candles for the Children’s Day celebration!

🎂 A Quick Fix for Celebration

While most of us returned to the hotel,

Sougata and Papai stayed back at the market and:

  • Bought cake 🎂
  • Picked up candles 🕯️

They later returned separately using local transport—
ensuring the celebration would still happen, just as planned 💛

🌙 Ending the Day with Excitement

As we reached the hotel,
there was a different kind of energy in the air.

Not just travel excitement…
but the joy of an upcoming celebration.

Because Day 6 wasn’t ending yet—

🎉 It was about to turn into a beautiful Children’s Day memory

🌙 Back to Shillong – A Day Nears Its End

By 7:30 PM, we returned to our hotel—
Rockski Boutique Hotel—
with luggage, tired bodies, and hearts full of memories from Cherrapunji.

The plan was simple now:
freshen up… and celebrate Children’s Day 🎉

But travel, as always, had its own twist waiting.

⚠️ An Unexpected Moment

Just when everything seemed perfect,
a sudden concern changed the mood.

Titli started feeling unwell.

When we checked,
it was a high fever.

Maybe it was due to:

  • Excess walking 🚶‍♀️
  • Playing in the sun ☀️
  • Or simply travel fatigue

The reason didn’t matter at that moment.

What mattered was—
would the celebration still happen?

🎂 Waiting, Hoping, Deciding

By 8:15 PM, Sougata and Papai returned with:

  • 🎂 Cake
  • 🕯️ Candles

Meanwhile, we gave Titli medicine and let her rest.

The group split into small responsibilities:

  • Caring for Titli 💛
  • Planning the celebration
  • Others stepping out briefly to arrange dinner

Time slowed down…
and we waited.

💛 A Small Recovery, A Big Decision

Around 10:00 PM,
Titli started feeling a little better.

Not fully fine… but better.

And that was enough.

We decided—
the celebration will happen, but with extra care

🎉 Children’s Day Celebration – A Moment to Remember

Assam & Meghalaya Tour Day 6 - Caves, Waterfalls & Children’s Day Celebration in Shillong - TravelWithSurajitAt around 10:30 PM,
the room lights dimmed…

Candles were lit 🕯️
The cake was placed 🎂
And smiles slowly returned 😊

Wrapped in an extra warm shawl,
Titli stood there—
a little weak, but happy.

The cake was cut.
Candles were blown.
And just like that…

💛 The celebration came alive

🎁 Gifts, Laughter & Little Chaos

After the cake cutting:

  • 🎁 Gifts were distributed to all kids
  • ☂️ The colorful umbrellas became the highlight

And of course…
a small fun “conflict” started 😄

Diya and Adrija both wanted the same umbrella color!

That’s when Sougata stepped in—
organizing a quick fun game to decide 🎲

Problem solved.
Smiles restored.

And then…
📸 Photo session began

🍜 Dinner & Closing the Day

For dinner, based on the kids’ choice, we had:

  • 🍜 Mixed Chowmein
  • 🥟 Momos
  • 🌶️ Chilli Chicken

Simple, tasty, and perfect after a long day.

By 11:30 PM, everything wrapped up.

Suchismita and Titli went to rest early,
while I returned to the room around 11:45 PM,
ending the day with a quiet sense of gratitude.

🌿 A Day Beyond Travel

Day 6 was not just about places like:

  • Mawsmai Cave
  • Arwah Cave
  • Seven Sisters Waterfalls

It became something more.

A journey that started with nature and adventure
and ended with emotion, care, and togetherness 💛

Because in the end—

Travel is not just about destinations…
It’s about the people you share it with.

🌿 End of Day Six – A Journey of Adventure & Emotion

Day 6 was not just another travel day— it was a perfect blend of nature, adventure, and heartfelt moments.

From the silent cliffs of Seven Sisters Waterfalls to the thrilling underground paths of Mawsmai Cave and Arwah Cave, every destination added a unique layer to our journey.

The peaceful views from Thangkharang Park gave us time to pause, while the return to Shillong brought a completely different energy— one of celebration, care, and togetherness.

The unexpected moment of Titli’s illness reminded us that travel is not always perfect…
but it is always real. And yet, despite everything, we celebrated.

🎉 A simple Children’s Day cake-cutting turned into one of the most emotional highlights of the trip— proving that the true beauty of travel lies not just in places, but in the people we share it with. As the day ended, we carried forward not just memories of landscapes,
but moments of love, bonding, and resilience 💛
