🌨️ About Gulmarg – Meadow of Flowers
Located in the Baramulla district of Jammu & Kashmir, Gulmarg is known for:
- Snow-covered landscapes
- Ski slopes among the best in Asia
- Gondola cable car (one of the highest in the world)
- Pine forests & panoramic Himalayan views
Originally called Gaurimarg, it was renamed by Sultan Yusuf Shah in the 16th century. It later became a favorite getaway of Mughal Emperor Jahangir.
🚡 About the Gondola Ride
The Gulmarg Gondola is one of the world’s highest cable cars. It has two main phases:
Phase 1 – Kongdori (Approx. 8,500 ft)
- Duration: 9–12 minutes
- Views: Snow fields, pine forests, panoramic meadows
Phase 2 – Apharwat (Approx. 13,500 ft)
- Duration: 12–15 minutes
- Views: Pir Panjal Range, deep snow walls, dramatic Himalayan scenery
Important: Phase 2 depends on weather & wind conditions.

Local guides and equipment rentals are available on the spot.
🚗 How to Reach Gulmarg
- From Srinagar:
- Distance: ~50 km
- Time: 1.5 – 2 hours
- Route: Srinagar → Tangmarg → Gulmarg
- Public taxis, hire cabs, and shared vehicles available
- During winter, chains may be required due to snow on roads
🎫 Gondola Ticket Price (Approx.)
- Phase 1: ₹740 per person
- Phase 2: ₹950 per person
- Snow activities: Rates vary by vendor (₹300–₹1,500)
Prices may vary season to season.
🌤️ Best Time to Visit
- December – March: Heavy snow, winter activities
- April – June: Green meadows + mild snow at upper points
- September – November: Clear skies & autumn views
For snow lovers, January–February is peak beauty.

- Winter (Dec–Feb): Pure white landscapes
- Spring (Mar–Apr): Snow + blooming trees
