📸 Andaman Tour 🌳 Saw Mill 🌿 Manipur Park 🌅 Chidiyatapu Sunset Point 🎥 Digital Photo Album: Day 6

“From timber and trails to tides and twilight — Day 6 shows Andaman where history, forest, and sea quietly meet.”

Andaman Tour – Day 6 explores a different side of the islands, blending industrial heritage, rich biodiversity, and one of the most scenic sunset locations in South Andaman. This digital photo album moves through history, forests, ferries, and coastline — quietly captured through visuals and atmosphere.

The day begins at the historic Chatham Saw Mill, located on Chatham Island, just a short distance from Port Blair and connected by a 100-meter bridge. Established in 1883, it is recognized as Asia’s oldest and largest sawmill and continues to play an important role in meeting local timber requirements for construction. Visitors can walk through the massive machinery, timber yards, and processing areas while learning about the island’s industrial past. A guided visit adds deeper insight into its operations and history.

From Chatham, the journey continues via the Chatham–Bamboo Flat vehicle ferry, a short but scenic crossing covering approximately 1.92 km. This frequently operating ferry service is a lifeline for local commuters and an interesting experience for travelers, offering close views of daily island life and calm harbor waters.

The next stop is Mount Manipur National Park, formerly known as Mount Harriet National Park. Renamed to honor the contribution of Manipur during the 1857 Revolt, the park spans 4.62 square kilometers and features the third-highest peak in the Andaman archipelago (383 meters). The lush forested landscape is famous for being featured on the reverse side of the older ₹20 Indian currency note. The park is a haven for nature lovers, especially butterfly enthusiasts, and is home to wildlife such as wild pigs, robber crabs, and saltwater crocodiles. The walking trails and viewpoints provide a refreshing break surrounded by greenery and silence.

As the day draws to a close, the journey heads towards Chidiyatapu, popularly known as Bird Island and the southernmost tip of South Andaman Island. Located about 25 km from Port Blair, Chidiyatapu is renowned for its dramatic sunsets over the Bay of Bengal. The area includes Munda Pahad Beach, rocky shorelines, and a Biological Park that showcases local flora and fauna. As the sun sinks into the horizon, the sky transforms into warm shades of orange and gold, offering one of the most peaceful sunset experiences in Andaman.
