🌄 Day 8 – A Different Beginning in Guwahati
Unlike the previous days filled with tight schedules and early departures, Day 8 started on a completely different note…
Not rushed.
Not planned by the clock.
But guided by comfort and choice.
While most of our group had already left at 2:00 AM for the sacred darshan at Kamakhya Temple, we decided to follow our own pace—a more relaxed and flexible plan.
After days of continuous travel, sightseeing, and a long 4-hour journey the previous evening, our bodies clearly needed rest. So instead of forcing an early start, we allowed ourselves the luxury of sleep…
And finally woke up at 8:00 AM, refreshed and recharged.
☕ A Calm Morning & Preparation
The morning began slowly—with freshening up and a comforting cup of bed tea.
I got ready first, wearing a traditional Panjabi, perfect for visiting a sacred temple. Soon after, I asked Suchismita and Titli to get ready while I headed down to the reception to check on breakfast timings.
The hotel staff informed me that breakfast would start from 9:00 AM, and thankfully, it was already included in our stay.
Before heading back, I also asked about arranging a car for the temple visit. The manager suggested something practical:
“It will be costly if you book through the hotel with waiting charges. Better take an Uber—you’ll save money and it’s more flexible.”
Honestly, it made perfect sense.
🚖 Smart Travel Decision
Taking his advice, I called Suchismita from reception and told her:
👉 Be ready by 9:00 AM for breakfast
👉 We’ll book an Uber around 9:45 AM for the temple
Sometimes, small decisions like these make travel smoother and more efficient.
🍽️ A Delightful Breakfast Experience
The breakfast spread was surprisingly rich and satisfying—a perfect start to the day.
There were plenty of options available:
- Fresh fruit juice, watermelon & banana
- Bread, butter & jelly
- South Indian items like idli & sambar
- North Indian options like alu paratha & kachori
- Upma, boiled corn, boiled eggs
- And on request: poached egg or omelette
- Along with hot tea & coffee
Everything tasted fresh and delicious—simple, yet fulfilling.
We wrapped up breakfast by 9:50 AM, feeling energized for the spiritual journey ahead.
🚗 Journey Begins Towards the Temple
With everything ready—camera, handbags, and essentials—we checked out of the room for the morning outing.
I quickly booked an Uber, and luckily…
Within just 5 minutes, our car arrived.
And exactly at 10:00 AM, we finally began our journey towards the divine destination—
the sacred Kamakhya Temple 🙏
🚗 Journey Towards the Sacred Hill of Kamakhya Temple
The distance from our stay near Ganeshguri to the temple isn’t very far—
but in a city like Guwahati, the journey itself becomes an experience.
- Distance: लगभग 12–15 km
- Time: 30–45 minutes (traffic-dependent)
- Route: Ganeshguri → GS Road → Paltan Bazaar → Bharalumukh → Nilachal Hill
And yes… traffic near Bharalumukh and the uphill stretch can slow things down, especially during peak hours.
🛣️ From City Rush to Spiritual Calm
1️⃣ Departure – The Urban Pulse
As our Uber started at 10:00 AM, we moved through the busy streets of Ganeshguri.
The surroundings were full of life—shops opening, people rushing, and the city already in motion.
Very soon, we passed one of the prominent landmarks of the city—
the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden.
The road, especially near the Shraddhanjali Flyover, was vibrant with colorful wall art—
a beautiful blend of urban energy and culture.
2️⃣ Mid Journey – City to River Connection
As we moved further:
- We crossed areas like Christian Basti
- Gradually approached the central parts like Pan Bazaar
- And somewhere along the way, the presence of the mighty
Brahmaputra River started to make its presence felt
Near Pan Bazaar, one can even spot the famous
Guwahati Ropeway—
offering breathtaking aerial views of the river and Umananda Island.
Slowly, the crowded cityscape began to thin…
and the journey started feeling calmer.
3️⃣ The Final Stretch – Nilachal Hill Ascent 🌿
And then came the most beautiful part of the journey…
The 3 km uphill climb towards Nilachal Hill.
The road turned winding, surrounded by greenery, and with every turn—
the view became more magical.
From up there, you can witness:
- A panoramic view of Guwahati
- The vast flow of the Brahmaputra River
- And a peaceful silence that slowly replaces the city noise
On the way, we also passed several small temples dedicated to the Dasha Mahavidyas, adding a deep spiritual vibe to the journey.
Many travelers stop at viewpoints here—but we decided to continue straight toward the temple.
🚖 Arrival – The Final Walk Begins
After लगभग 40 minutes, we reached the dropping point, which is around 500 meters before the main temple entrance.
- Private cars don’t go beyond this point
- Local buses and shared transport are available here
- And the rest of the journey must be completed on foot
From here, the atmosphere completely changes…
You start walking through a lively temple market, filled with:
- Puja items 🌸
- Flowers & prasad 🪔
- Local shops and भक्तों की आवाज़
🚶♂️ Reaching the Temple Gate
Walking through the vibrant market and slowly moving upward,
we finally reached the temple entrance at around 10:50 AM.
And just like that…
Our journey from a relaxed morning
to the doorstep of one of India’s most powerful Shakti Peeths—
Kamakhya Temple—was complete 🙏
🙏 A Spiritual Pause at Kamakhya Temple
Unlike many devotees visiting with a plan for puja or special rituals, we kept things simple.
No rush.
No पूजा planning.
We just wanted to feel the place, explore the surroundings, and capture moments through our camera.
So instead of joining long queues, we spent time around the temple परिसर—
enjoying viewpoints, observing rituals from a distance, and taking plenty of photos 📸
🌸 Where Journey Meets Devotion
After days filled with nature, waterfalls, and scenic landscapes,
this moment brought a completely different dimension to our trip.
A shift from exploration → to introspection.
Because Kamakhya Temple is not just a temple—
it is one of the most powerful Shakti Peeths in India, deeply rooted in faith, mythology, and ancient traditions.
⛰️ A Sacred Destination on Nilachal Hills
Situated atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati,
this temple holds immense religious importance.
It is believed to be one of the 51 Shakti Peeths,
where parts of Goddess Sati’s body fell—making it a sacred pilgrimage for Hindu devotees across the country.
🔱 Unique Spiritual Significance
What makes this temple truly unique is something rare…
👉 There is no traditional idol inside the sanctum
Instead, devotees worship a natural yoni-shaped rock, symbolizing:
- Feminine energy
- Creation
- Fertility
- The divine power of Shakti
This makes the temple spiritually powerful and culturally distinct from most other temples in India.
🛕 Temple Complex & Architecture
The temple परिसर is not limited to a single shrine.
It is also associated with the Ten Mahavidyas—
powerful forms of Goddess Durga, each representing different aspects of cosmic energy.
Architecturally, the temple follows the traditional Nilachal style, featuring:
- Dome-shaped structure
- Intricate carvings
- A timeless historical charm
Walking through the complex feels like stepping into a space where history and spirituality coexist.
🎉 Ambubachi Mela – A Rare Festival
One of the most unique festivals celebrated here is the
Ambubachi Mela
This festival marks the annual menstruation cycle of Goddess Kamakhya,
during which:
- The temple remains closed for a few days
- Later reopens with grand rituals
- Thousands of devotees and Tantric practitioners gather from across India
A truly rare and powerful spiritual phenomenon.
🌿 The Spiritual Experience
Even without entering the inner sanctum,
the energy of the place was undeniable.
- Continuous chants in the background 🔔
- Devotees immersed in faith
- Priests performing rituals
Despite the crowd, there was a strange sense of peace and power in the air—
something you feel more than you can explain.

🎬 Final Moments at the Temple
We spent around 30 minutes exploring the temple surroundings.
Since we couldn’t find our group members anywhere,
we assumed they had already completed their puja and returned to the hotel for rest.
So, we didn’t call them… and continued our journey at our own pace.

🚌 Returning the Local Way
After spending peaceful moments at Kamakhya Temple, it was time to head back.
But this time, things didn’t go as smoothly as the morning…
All cab apps were showing long waiting times, and instead of wasting time, we made a quick decision:
👉 Let’s experience local transport
So, we boarded a public bus—a simple yet memorable way to explore the city like locals.
🛍️ A Detour to Fancy Bazar
Since the rest of our group was still resting at the hotel after their early morning darshan, we thought…
Why not explore the local market?
We got down near Umananda Ghat around 11:45 AM, right by the banks of the
Brahmaputra River.
Before entering the market, we spent a few moments by the riverside—
clicking photos and soaking in the calm beauty of the flowing river 📸
Then, crossing the road…
we stepped into the vibrant chaos of Fancy Bazar.
🏙️ The Heart of Guwahati’s Local Life
Often called the “Chandni Chowk of Guwahati”,
this market is one of the largest and busiest commercial hubs in Guwahati.
Located along MG Road near the riverfront, it offers everything you can imagine:
- Traditional Assamese silk (Mekhela Chador)
- Handicrafts & souvenirs
- Electronics & daily goods
- Street food & local delicacies
Nearby areas also add to the charm:
- Lakhtokia Market – budget shopping & street food
- Pan Bazaar – books & traditional wear
- Uzan Bazaar Fish Market – famous for fresh Brahmaputra fish
😋 Street Food First, Shopping Later
Before diving into shopping…
we couldn’t resist the street food 😄
- Tangy Assam-style Golgappa
- Freshly fried Hot Alu Chop
Simple food… but full of flavor!
🎁 Shopping Moments
Then began the real mission—shopping for loved ones 🛍️
- Bought gifts for relatives and friends
- Suchismita picked a beautiful Assamese saree
- Titli chose a cute local craft item
The market was crowded, colorful, and full of life—
and honestly, time just flew…
We didn’t even realize how 2 hours passed!
📞 Time to Head Back
Reality struck when Joy called around 1:30 PM:
👉 “Where are you? Everyone is waiting for lunch!”
Oops! 😅 Time to return.
I tried booking Uber again, but a helpful local shopkeeper suggested:
👉 “Take an auto from the main road—it’s faster and easier.”
And he was absolutely right.
🛺 Back to Hotel – Local Style
We took an auto-rickshaw from the market and headed back to the hotel—
another small but authentic local travel experience.
💤 Meanwhile… The Rest of the Group
Back at the hotel, everyone had a completely different morning story…
- They reached the temple around 3:00 AM
- Stood in a long queue amidst heavy crowd
- Completed their puja by around 7:00 AM
After returning, they went straight to rest 😴
We also came to know that Paromita stayed back at the hotel with Ishan,
as she is originally from Assam and had already visited the temple before.
🌇 Lunch with a View
We finally reached the hotel around 2:30 PM.
Everyone was waiting for us at the terrace restaurant—
and what a view it was!
From the terrace, you could see a wide panoramic view of
Guwahati—a perfect setting for a relaxed afternoon.
🍛 A Perfect Bengali Lunch
Today’s lunch was specially customized at the hotel restaurant—
and it felt just like home ❤️
Menu included:
- Rice
- Dal
- Alu Posto
- Alu Fry
- Egg Curry
A simple, comforting pure Bengali meal after days of travel.
To end on a sweet note:
- 🍨 Ice cream for the kids
- 🌿 Paan for us from a nearby local shop
✨ A Day of Contrast
From spiritual calm in the morning
to local chaos in the market
to peaceful lunch with family…
Day 8 was turning out to be one of the most diverse and memorable days of the trip.
🌇 A Grand Evening Surprise on the Brahmaputra River
After a spiritually fulfilling morning and a vibrant afternoon,
it was time for something truly special…
👉 A grand evening surprise for everyone—especially for the ladies and kids 💛
Sunset 🌅 + Cruise 🚢 + DJ 🎶 + Dinner 🍽️ = Perfect Ending
And since this was our last night together in Assam,
we were determined to make it unforgettable.
🚐 Journey to the Cruise Point
As per plan, we started our Traveller from the hotel around 4:30 PM
and reached the boarding point near
👉 Gateway of Guwahati
(MG Road, near Sukreshwar Ghat, inside Azan Peer Udyan)
by around 5:00 PM.
Our cruise timing was 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM,
so we had plenty of time in hand…
🌅 Waiting Time = Golden Time
Those 2 hours before boarding turned into beautiful memories.
Inside Azan Peer Udyan, we:
- Enjoyed the sunset by the riverside 🌇
- Took lots of group & solo photos 📸
- Spent relaxed moments together
Sometimes, unplanned time becomes the best part of a journey.
🌕 Cruise Begins Under Moonlight
Right at 7:30 PM, our cruise started…
By then, the sun had already set—but nature had something even more magical planned.
It was a full moon night 🌕
As the cruise sailed over the calm waters of the
Brahmaputra River,
we witnessed the moonlight reflecting on the river—
a view that felt straight out of a dream.
🎭 Cultural Program – A Taste of Assam
Before the party began, we were treated to a beautiful live cultural performance.
For almost 1 hour, we enjoyed:
- Traditional Bihu dance 💃
- Assamese folk music 🎶
- Live performances that showcased local culture
A perfect way to experience the soul of Assam.
🎧 DJ Night – Let the Party Begin!
And then…
👉 The vibe completely changed 😄
The DJ started, and the deck turned into a dance floor!
- Everyone joined in—kids, ladies, all of us
- Non-stop dancing for around 45 minutes
- Pure fun, laughter, and energy
And one of the most special moments…
🎤 Joy grabbed the mic and sang a song of
Mohammed Rafi
The entire deck turned into a live concert vibe!
🍽️ Dinner on the Cruise
After all that dancing… we were super hungry 😅
Time for buffet dinner on the middle deck.
And honestly—what wasn’t there?
- Fried rice & pulao
- Radhaballavi
- Mixed veg
- Chicken, mutton & fish
- Chutney, papad
- Sweets 🍮
Everything was fresh, delicious, and satisfying.
We enjoyed dinner for around 20–25 minutes,
completely ignoring the clock 😄
⏰ Ending the Night… Slowly
The cruise reached back at the घाट around 9:30 PM, right on time.
But the best part?
👉 No one rushed us.
We finished our dinner peacefully and finally got down around 10:00 PM.
💛 A Perfect Ending to Togetherness
This wasn’t just a cruise…
It was:
- A celebration of togetherness
- A night full of laughter & music
- The perfect farewell to our Assam journey
Because the next day…
👉 Everyone would return to their own homes
But this night…
this joy…
these memories…
would stay forever.
