Journey Beyond Boundaries Chapter 30: The Silent Departure

Chapter 30: The Silent Departure

Chapter 30: The Silent Departure - Echoes on the Snow

The wind had started to soften at Table Top Sonamarg… evening approaching slowly, the light turning pale as shadows stretched longer across the snow-lined edges of the plateau.

🏔️ Akash and Depabali still stood where they were—neither moving much… because sometimes, after too many truths, movement feels unnecessary.

Footsteps approached.

Ananya.

She came quietly—without interruption, without hesitation.

And then, with a faint, composed smile, she spoke—

“What are you both discussing here?”

Her tone was light… almost casual.

But her eyes—observed everything.

“You’re missing the place,” she added, glancing around. “The beauty… the view.”

Depabali turned slightly—“Yes.”

“And?” Ananya asked gently.

For a moment—no answer.

Then a faint smile.

“We were just… catching up.”

The answer was simple… but incomplete.

Ananya nodded—“As old friends do.”

✨ The silence that followed was delicate—not broken… but understood.

Akash looked between them… sensing something unspoken.

Then Depabali spoke again—

“I stayed back in Kolkata.”

Ananya listened.

“I needed to build something… not just for myself.”

A pause.

“So I prepared for the Public Service exams.”

Ananya’s eyes softened—“That’s not easy.”

“It wasn’t.”

🌬️ The wind brushed lightly across them.

“I studied while working… managed everything somehow.”

Akash watched her quietly.

“I cleared WBCS.”

No pride—just fact.

“Got my first posting in Burdwan.”

“That must have been a big step,” Ananya said.

“It was.”

A pause.

“And now… for the last two years… I’ve been posted in Bankura.”

Akash looked at her—“BDO.”

Depabali nodded—“Yes.”

✨ The word carried weight—responsibility… struggle… survival.

Ananya looked at her a moment longer—there was no sympathy in her gaze… only respect.

“You’ve built a strong life,” she said quietly.

Depabali paused—then replied, “Had to.”

The simplicity made it heavier.

A brief silence followed.

🌬️ The wind moved again—colder now.

Ananya glanced once at Akash… then back at the valley.

“We should head back.”

Her tone unchanged—yet something within it had settled… a quiet decision, unspoken but made.

Akash nodded.

Depabali stepped back.

✨ The moment closed—without confrontation… without conclusion.

Because not all endings are loud.

Some are silent… and final in their own way.

As they began walking back, the distance returned—not forced… not dramatic… just accepted.

Behind them, the vast valley remained unchanged.

🏔️ Because mountains don’t hold stories… they only witness them… and let them go.
