The road narrowed as they left the main meadow behind…
🚗 Two vehicles moved one after another toward the higher viewpoint of Doodhpathri View Point, the path curling through pine forests and open stretches where snow still clung to the earth—untouched in places, melting slowly in others. They had split without much discussion. Depabali sat in the front seat of the first car, with Asha and little Deepabali in the back—both girls unusually quiet, watching the changing landscape.
🚘 In the second car—Akash sat by the window, and Ananya beside him. The engine hummed softly… no music, no conversation. Outside, the valley stretched in pale shades of white and green—the “Valley of Milk,” where streams ran milky against the frozen ground, and sunlight struggled to warm the silence. Inside… something waited.
🧣 Ananya adjusted her shawl slightly, her eyes on the road ahead. Then, without turning—she spoke.
“Did you love her?”
The question came calmly—no hesitation, no buildup. Akash didn’t move. For a few seconds, only the sound of tires against the rough road filled the space.
“You heard me,” she added softly.
He exhaled slowly… “Yes.”
The answer was quiet, but clear. Ananya nodded slightly—as if she already knew.
“And now?” she asked.
This time, Akash looked at her. She wasn’t angry… wasn’t hurt in the way he expected. She was steady.
“I don’t know,” he said honestly.
🌨️ The car slowed at a turn. The valley opened wider—revealing a stretch of frozen land where the wind moved freely, untouched by anything human.
“Strange place to find answers,” Ananya said.
“Or questions,” Akash replied.
A faint silence settled again.
“I noticed,” she said after a moment.
He didn’t ask what—he knew.
“The way you look at her… the way you stop talking when she’s around.”
“It’s not something new.”
The words landed gently, but deeply.
“I never hid anything intentionally,” Akash said.
“I know,” Ananya replied.
That made it harder.
🏔️ The car moved further uphill, the road rougher now, snow thicker at the edges.
“And she?” Ananya asked.
Akash hesitated…
“She didn’t move on.”
“Meaning?”
“She waited.”
Silence… the kind that doesn’t pass quickly.
Ananya leaned back slightly, her eyes closing for a brief second.
“Life is unfair,” she said.
Akash didn’t respond—because no answer would fit.
📍 “View point, sir,” the driver said. The car came to a stop.
They stepped out. The cold hit instantly—sharper than before. The valley stretched below them—white, silent, endless. Streams cut through it like unfinished lines, uncertain, slow.
Akash stood beside Ananya… but there was a distance now—not physical, something else.
“She knows?” Ananya asked quietly.
Akash shook his head.
“She doesn’t need to say it.”
🌬️ The wind blew stronger, lifting loose snow into the air.
“For some people,” she said slowly, “love becomes a memory.”
A pause.
“For others… it becomes a life.”
“And for you?” Akash asked.
She didn’t answer immediately. Her eyes stayed on the valley.
“I chose what I have.”
The words were simple… but complete.
🚶♀️ From a distance, the other car arrived. Depabali stepped out. Asha beside her. Little Deepabali following. For a moment—all of them stood in the same place… but not in the same space.
❄️ The valley stretched endlessly below—frozen, still… like lines running beside each other. Close enough to see… but never truly meeting.
