North East India was always in my travel bucket list. The misty hills of Meghalaya, the wild jungles of Kaziranga, the mighty Brahmaputra in Guwahati—everything felt like a dream waiting to come true.
But this journey was not just about destinations.
It was about childhood friendships, family bonding, laughter of children, and memories that will stay forever.
After 23 long years, three childhood friends—Surajit, Sougata, and Kunal—met again, thanks to Facebook.
Back in our school days, there were no mobile phones, no social media—only handwritten notes and playground memories. Life took us in different directions, but destiny brought us back together.
So when we planned this 8 Nights 9 Days North East tour, it was not just a vacation.
It was a reunion, a celebration, and a road trip of emotions.
🗺️ Our Friends & Family Group Tour Story
This was not a solo trip or just a couple’s vacation. It was a large group family tour with friends, something we had dreamed of for many years.
👨👩👧 My Family
I, Surajit, traveled with my beloved wife Suchismita and our daughter Titli, my world, my travel partners, my reason to explore.
🧑🤝🧑 Childhood School Friends Reunion
Two of my closest school friends from class 1 to class 10, Sougata and Kunal, joined this tour with their families. We last met during our class 10 exams, and after that, life took us in different directions. There was no mobile, no Facebook, no easy way to stay connected during childhood.
After 23 years, we reconnected through Facebook, and the excitement felt like returning to childhood again. This tour became our reunion trip, where we laughed, shared memories, and lived those school days once again.
- Sougata traveled with his wife Mou and daughter Adrija (almost same age as Titli).
- Kunal traveled with his wife Monika and daughter Diya, who was slightly older than Titli.
- Babu, Sougata’s brother-in-law, also joined our group.
👨👩👧👦 Office Friends Turned Family
Two of Sougata’s office colleagues, Joy and Indra, joined with their families.
- Joy traveled with his wife Tanushree and daughter Jiya, the youngest among the girls.
- Indra traveled with his wife Paromita and their little son Ishan, the only boy and the youngest member of our group.
It felt like a big family tour with cousins, siblings, and friends all together.

🚗 How Our North East Journey Began
We started from Kolkata to Guwahati by flight, each family booking their own tickets.
From Guwahati, Joy arranged a 23-seater Traveller that stayed with us for the entire 9 days—our moving home on wheels.
Joy took responsibility for hotels and transport, while I handled all funds and expense management like a treasurer.
At the end of the tour, all expenses were divided equally among the five families—simple, transparent, and friendly.

🌟 Joy – The Architect & Heartbeat of Our Assam Journey
Every memorable journey needs a dreamer, a planner, and a leader who quietly brings everything together.
For our Assam tour, that person was Joy.
Joy was the master planner and organizer of this entire 8 Nights 9 Days North East journey.
From selecting destinations, booking hotels, arranging the 23-seater traveller, coordinating schedules, and ensuring smooth logistics—he carried the journey in his mind long before it began on the road.
He didn’t just plan a trip; he crafted an experience for five families, sixteen people, and many dreams.
Throughout the journey, Joy was always alert—
checking hotel check-ins, confirming routes with the driver, managing timing, and solving problems before they became problems.
When others were enjoying the scenery, Joy was silently ensuring everything worked perfectly behind the scenes.
But beyond planning, Joy was the emotional connector of the group.
He brought together school friends, colleagues, families, and children into one traveling family.
His friendly nature, adjustable mentality, and calm leadership made everyone feel comfortable, respected, and safe.
Without Joy, this journey would not have been possible in the way it unfolded.
He was the captain of our road trip ship, steering us through jungles, mountains, rains, and memories.
❤️ Sougata – The Guardian of Happiness for Children
Sougata naturally became the guardian of all the kids on this trip.
He took responsibility for their needs, snacks, games, moods, and safety—always ensuring they were smiling.
Whether it was calming a crying child, playing with them during long drives, or making sure everyone was comfortable, he carried a heart full of love for children.
For the kids, he was more than an uncle—he was their travel buddy, entertainer, and protector.
📸 Kunal – The Memory Keeper Behind the Lens
Kunal took on the role of official photographer of our journey.
He believed photography is the only way to capture time, freeze emotions, and preserve moments forever.
From sunrise landscapes to candid laughter, group photos to emotional hugs, he ensured no memory was lost.
Years later, when we look back at these photos, we won’t just see places—we will relive emotions.
💼 Indra – The Silent Partner in Accounting & Planning
Indra was involved in almost every responsibility.
He assisted me with expense tracking, planning, and practical decisions during the tour.
Whenever there was confusion about costs, schedules, or logistics, Indra was there—quietly supporting and simplifying things.
He was the backbone that helped keep the journey organized and stress-free.
🌟 Babu – The Youngest Brother of Our Travel Family
Babu was the youngest member among all the adults in our group and the only unmarried one.
In real life, he is Mou’s younger brother, but during this journey, he became everyone’s younger brother.
For all of us, he was simply our Babu, Bau Uncle, Babu Dada / Bhai / Bhaiya, and we are his Dada and Didi.
Babu worked with everyone—always ready to help.
He supported Sougata in taking care of the children, assisted us whenever we needed help during the journey, and was always available with a smile and positive energy.
Whether it was carrying luggage, arranging seats in the traveller, helping with hotel check-ins, or simply being there when someone needed support—Babu was quietly present everywhere.
His youthful energy added freshness to the group, and his respectful nature made everyone feel comfortable.
He was not assigned a formal responsibility, yet he was involved in every responsibility.
In many moments, he felt like the younger brother of a big joint family traveling together, learning, helping, laughing, and sharing the joy of the journey with all of us.
💰 Surajit (Me) – The Treasurer & Storyteller
And I, Surajit, took the role of treasurer of the tour, managing funds, tracking expenses, and ensuring fair distribution among all families.
At the same time, I was capturing videos, writing stories, and preserving this journey so that these moments never fade with time.

This trip was not organized by a travel agency.
It was organized by friendship, trust, and shared responsibility.
Each person played a role like a family member in a joint household.

The moment our flight touched down in Guwahati, excitement was in the air.
For me, it was not just another destination—it was a journey with friends after 23 years of separation.
When Sougata and Kunal hugged me at the airport, it felt like we were back in our school playground. Our wives and children were meeting for the first time, but within minutes, everyone felt like one big family.

Tea gardens, Assamese villages, roadside dhabas, and endless highways welcomed us to the heart of Assam. By evening, when we entered Kaziranga, the jungle air felt mysterious and refreshing.

🐘 Day 2 – Kaziranga Safari | Childhood Wonder in the Wild
We woke up before sunrise, excitement stronger than sleep.
Kaziranga Safari was not just a wildlife tour—it was a dream come true.
Mist covered the grasslands, birds sang unknown songs, and suddenly a one-horned rhinoceros walked across our jeep track. Children screamed in excitement, adults silently stared in awe.

Cherrapunjee felt unreal.
Fog covered valleys, waterfalls dropped from invisible heights, and every corner looked like a painting.
We explored viewpoints, nature wonders, and the famous living root bridge stories that amazed both kids and adults.
It felt like walking inside a fantasy movie set.
That night, listening to insects and mountain silence, we felt how small humans are in front of nature.

Morning in Cherrapunjee was peaceful.
After breakfast, we returned to Shillong with hearts full of misty memories.
On the road, children slept, adults edited photos, and everyone silently felt grateful for this nature escape.
Shillong nights were again full of laughter, card games, gossip, and family bonding.

This day felt magical.
The Umngot River at Dawki was so clear that boats looked like floating in the air.
We touched the India-Bangladesh border, clicked group photos, joked about international travel, and enjoyed nature’s pure beauty.
Children played, adults relaxed, and cameras never stopped clicking.

After sightseeing, we started our journey back to Guwahati.
