Doodhpathri, located in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, is one of the region’s most picturesque offbeat destinations. Surrounded by lush green pastures, pine-covered slopes, and snow-capped peaks, it truly lives up to its poetic name. The Shaliganga River, flowing through the valley, creates a magical soundscape that makes you feel as if time stands still.
💠 History & Meaning:
According to local legend, the famous saint Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani once prayed here for water, and milk instead flowed from the ground — hence the name Doodhpathri, meaning “Valley of Milk.”
🚗 How to Reach:
By Road: Doodhpathri is about 1.5–2 hours’ drive from Srinagar. Taxis and private cars are easily available.
Nearest Airport: Srinagar International Airport (45 km away).
Nearest Railway Station: Budgam or Srinagar stations are the closest.
🎫 Entry Fee & Timings:
There is no entry fee for Doodhpathri. The area is open to visitors from 9 AM to 5 PM, though it’s best to start early to enjoy the scenic drive and avoid crowds.
🌤️ Best Time to Visit:
Summer (April–June): Ideal for lush green meadows and pleasant weather.
Autumn (September–October): Enjoy golden landscapes and crisp air.
Winter (December–February): Snow transforms the valley into a white wonderland.
